Is it possible to turn the sat nav off because... |
|
...I work in London (but live in the country) and in the week I can see that the screen and other SATNAV nonsense is just a pain plus I know where I work so I don't need it on and I feel that it being on is just causing unnecessary wear. It was possible to turn it fully off in my last car. On the LR I know it's possible to turn off the screen, but clearly the DVD player is still in operation because Her Indoors chunters away all the same. I've checked the manual but can't see it (doesn't mean it isn't there).
Any advice?
Cheers.

Short of pulling a fuse (but that would probably upset something else) no, it's not, but you could turn the screen off and remove the disc from the DVD player if it bothers you that much The End

Thanks. Obvious answer would be to remove the DVD. Didn't think of that.

You can just turn the display off and turn the voice off.
You turn the display off in the settings page.
Not sure if that's what you're looking for. I can't remember if it stays off or comes back on again when you reboot the car! D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Yep - you have to do it each time you start up.

So far we have covered 175k disco3 miles and have never suffered wear issues with the nav apart from dirty discs. Don't worry In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I was afraid she'd get hoarse from talking so much!
Or is that why the voice is female?

Yep that's why it's a female voice. The female voice is naturally able to talk for about 10 times longer than a mans, although like the sat nav, the info that comes out isn't the best and it often repeats itself for no apparent reason.
Also like most females it can easily be turned off .Turning it on is complicated and involves agreeing to it's rules before it will give you any sort of satisfaction. Like most females it's not easy to enter information into or take instruction especially whilst driving. It also believes that it knows best, even when it is wrong! Like my wife, the sat nav assumes that I am capable of time travel and if we leave home at 9am for a 70 mile journey we can be at our destination in 30 minutes.
Similarly the sat nav decides that areas I have no interest in such as French Restaurants are "points of interest", I think my wife designed the Land Rover Sat Nav! D3 HSE MY05 Auto
