Got to drive the D4 today. Couldn't take it around the off-road course (seems LR are still a bit nervous with their brand new vehicles...). So drove it on-road. I was in the driver's seat with NJF as passenger. QUick summary of our impressions.
Outside - I still do not like the front grill. Rest has grown on me (we've been looking at them all day today). Darker colours suit it best.
So I opened the doors and we sat in it - Very nice...we were like like two drooling kids in a sweetshop...
Engine start - oh my...quieter and smoother...
First part of the drive was on a very bumpy area getting out of Bridel quarry - lot more comfortable than a D3 (and, dare I say it; more comfortable than the TDV8 FFRR I'd been hooning around in all morning...)
On the road - 8) 8) yep...it's better than a D3. By a big enough margin to be very noticeable.
But then, most of you lot know this all ready...
We played with a few buttons. The camera system does seem to be a solution to a question that was never answered. Unless that question is "hey Noel - I think I can drive this car just by looking at the camera view in the info screen..."
I'm now convinced. It is that big of an improvement. It does make a great car greater still.
My couple of big thoughts to myself, though - I'm not so sure I would take a D4 off road as much as a D3. And is the D4 really the new RR...
(still don't like the front grill...) The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."
