Prop shaft centre bearing bracket

For early D4 owners, up to LA520586, expect to hear from your dealer about a potential issue with the quality of the welding on the mentioned bracket.

Can I ask your source? I think this includes my vehicle but dealer denied all knowledge when having the "DPF" fault sorted.
Thanks
Tim

Confused - Land Rover (it's not unusual for dealers to claim to be comic Spanish waiters).

Hmmm
That is an interesting range - my car, which I am told is not due for release from the factory until 24/10, is below this. Confused Does this mean that they are continuing to build new cars knowing they will need to be recalled for this to be repaired? Or was my car built ages ago and is sitting in a field somewhere? Shocked

Sounds like a bit of the latter......they recognised and fixed the issue following the final VIN in the range.

Shocked
Thanks for the info - is there any way I can check when a particular VIN number was built/released by factory? Or failing that when 520586 in this thread was supposed to have been completed?
I will be thoroughly Censored off if the car is out of the factory & I don't yet have it.

At a guess, and it is only that, about two-three weeks ago - but not later.

Very quick - mine was done today. As far as i'm aware it's check and add modified part if no fractures/cracks found.

Ask your dealer again - this retification has only been added to the dealer computer system very recently.

Mark.

6th October, if you call that very recently.

If your dealer looks at you like you are a madman when you enquire, point him to UPS 3809-2, as issued on 6th Oct and updated on 16th October.

Important to note that the fault is not expected to be present on all vehicles, but all vehicles within the range should be checked. Were anyone to be particularly keen to have more details, a PM might be appropriate.

Presumably the modified part allows the cracks and fractures to form correctly then? Whistle

That would certainly seem to be correct logic!

The procedure is to check the bracket integrity; if it seems ok, then the bracket is simply replaced. If it has failed, then the driveshaft is replaced and then a new bracket is fitted. It seems that a failed bracket is defined as one that opens up at either side.

I've noticed a metallic rattle from under my D4 when engine is idling. My VIN number start 51, so I guess I could be affected by this and I'm beggining to wonder if the noise is due to the bracket failing?
Is the bracket behind the metal heat sheilding panel(?) around the DPF? I had a quick look but couldn't see the bracket as pictured earlier in this thread.
