Split Hose

I was just checking around the D3 today, oil, lights etc when i came across the split hose in the picture below.
I think its the air intake hose, but im not 100%.

It comes from the bottom of the engine bay, up along side the air filter then into the engine, its got a 2/3" split near the clip. Ive taped it up for now with self amalgamating tape.

Anyone know what the hose is, easy to replace and are they expensive?

The picture is taken from the drivers side wing.

Does it come from the intercooler? Have you been experiencing black smoke recently?

It's an intercooler hose PNH500025 rrp 34.96inc vat.
Common fault, causes black smoke & possible engine fault on dash.

Dead easy to renew, undo hose clip at top, under the RH side down low, in the inner arch, take off the plastic clips & remove the small cover, so you can get at the hoseclip at the bottom & then pull the hose up through, don't worry about a bit of oil in the hose, that's normal.

regards
Steve

Or you could order from Nick @ Yeovil & they'd post it to you and save some dosh.
The amalgamated taped version should be fine for a while. Thumbs Up

I have just found exactly the same problem and gaffer taped it for the meantime. Thanks to the response as it has saved me a lot of bother. Interestingly I noticed that it also dented the MPG by 3-4 mpg!

Thanks. Let me know if silicone hoses actually make any difference to performance or more importantly.... economy!! If you could get back to me before I have to replace the rigging tape I wold be eternally grateful! Laughing

Hi benji,
The difference with silicone hoses is not in performance, but in reliability.

Best Wishes,

After an EGR failure on the M56 towing the tintent home at half term put me on the hard shoulder, I decided to try & pre-empt another common failure point by changing my Intercooler Hose before my next big trip to the North of Scotland next month with the van....

Ordered the hose from TLO, delivered yesterday and fitted it in about 45 minutes this morning including the time for jacking the front up and having a coffee to wake me up. The advice and encouragement above was very useful, thanks everyone Thumbs Up
