United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Tangiers OrangeDiscovery 3

While visiting Land Rover Las Vegas last month I had a great deal of a chat with their sales manager, marketing manager and CEO and they can't wait for the diesel engine their side of the pond.

hopefull the LRX will come with hybrid disel for them too...

they do have cutomers coming to request TDV6s and TDV8s but have nothing to provided them with
(serously seemed depressed about it, really...)

great staff by the way (and a nice collection of "antique" landies, moded LRs Thumbs Up

How is it that BMW can sell a 3.0 turbo diesel X5 in the USA but not Land Rover? Confused

I have heard that it is because the 3.0l and V8 diesel will not pass emissions and/or that LRNA does not believe there is a sufficient market for the diesels. I for one am holding-off on procurring an LR4 until the diesel is available.

As you said, there are plenty of SUV diesel's available in the US now: Toureg, ML and GL, and X5. Nothing with a low-range, however.

Compared to when I bought my LR3 in Jan. 2007, there is so little inventory of LR4's that perhaps the economics do not make sense? I for one know that my local LR dealership has missed out on a lot of sales, not because they do not have potential buyers, but because they do not have available inventory. They are even reluctant to discount remaining 2010's, though 2011's are on the lot, as they are a scarce resource. My sales guy even says dealer trades are very difficult.

Just be grateful that the US don't use such a high proportion of diesel as we do. There is an excess of diesel from the refineries over there that is shipped over to Europe as our refineries don't produce enough. And, in turn, we ship gasoline over to the US as we now have a surplus since diesel became so much more popular.

If diesel became popular in the US, price of our stuff would go up. None of the oil companies are particularly keen to invest in new refineries as it doesn't pay them to do so for the present.

Strange world it is...

Having spent the last 3 weeks in Arizona & California I'm surprised that their isn't a 7 litre (liter) version for the U.S. !

All the crap and hassle over here about saving fuel, carbon footprints etc. pales into insignificance when you see the size of the stuff that they use as 'family runabouts' over there. The contrast is almost sickening.

There is. Well, a 6.3 litre version. It goes in the F-Series, built in the same plant where they now build the TDV8.
