Flappy Paddles?

Hi Chaps,

Was just browsing the D4 owners manual on the LR website Whistle

(Click on link below and choose 'Discovery 4' and 'Owners Handbooks. Then select the bottom option 'UK Market only'. You need to allow pop-ups. )

http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp

If you have a look at the 'Facia' page it shows items 7 & 11 as being the 'downshift' & 'upshift' gear paddles. (It also shows the L/H drive layout) Rolling Eyes

I have not seen this in any vehicle in the showrooms nor have I seen it on the options list.

Was it yet another pre-production 'dream' or are these really being fitted to vehicles?

Can anyone here shed any light on this?

I think the paddle shifters are standard on the supercharged 5.0 V8 RRS....

Considering they've said that they aren't ever going to put the supercharged V8 into the D4 then I guess it's just a copy/paste exercise gone wrong....ISTR that the original D3 manuals had a load of stuff from the RRS and FFRR stuck in them too...

I'm pretty certain the one I test drove had them...They are very subtly integrated...

Whilst you may have been flapping about a bit during the test driver, which is quite understandable, I suspect you were confusing the various steering wheel buttons. The D4 does not have gearshift paddles......yet.

the RRS has the flappy paddles and as an addtional order from the factory at order time the price for them was something like £190. so for that sort of price there cannot be that much in the way of additional parts required for them...Mmmmmm, i wonder Whistle

My dealer was convinced that the arabica seats in the RRS parked outside were also part of the D4 almond/arabica interior scheme. Shame they ain't, but bigger shame that the LR website, brochures and dealer network is, in part, a total shambles.

Looks like this is all electronically achieved, with the addition of the paddles on the wheel (and maybe a different steering wheel switchpack). The actions of the paddles are then passed, via the clockspring, to the instrument cluster - which, in turn, processes the inputs and passes them to the transmission control module.

I imagine that simply adding the physical bits won't be enough, and maybe even the clockspring is a different part number, and that the TCM would have to be reprogrammed too.

Very cool if this could be done............as you say, Nick, the parts don't cost a lot. Perhaps you could look at the clockspring part numbers to see if there is a difference?
