The camera view makes it look as though you are still 6 feet away from an object when in fact you are 6 inches away! Back in the game!

Discodad, think you need to get your camera re-calibrated. Mine is spot on, when it looks like you have 2" left and get out to check that is exactly what you have.
As for the comment about trusting the camera a lone, I would not, as Simon said I would use all available equipment to check behind and side when reversing or manovering of any sort. Better to be safe than sorry.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Overall the camera is a really great tool when used with the mirrors. Definitely not on its own. Basically the camera covers what the mirrors can't.Paul

I can't just trust the cameras either, but mine is accurate.........and the auto zoom facility is brilliant, when you get within a couple of feet the camera zooms in and you can safely get within an inch of a wall or post.2011 D4 Landmark, Mini Cooper SD Clubman, Range Rover Vogue SE

The "beeps" are inexact to say the least. My recent Merc had LEDs which supported the beeps and told you where you were getting close, which corner was closest, and going red once nearly there. The Disco system would be much improved with this feature. Much better that audio alone.Paul

Beep beep beep CRUNCH
A shipmate relied on the reversing beeps on his Audi A6 and forgot that the skip he had parked on his driveway had a substantial overhang. I ribbed him with, "Didn't your A6 come with a rearview mirror? My A5 did..."

On my D4 the reversing camera screen shows flashing blocks from each rear sensor as I get closer to any object - Like my Merc - only better - I just wish the front PDC came on automatically without having to either press the button or select reverse. Does anyone know if this is configurable without changing any of the h/w?

I had a VW where the front and rear were always activated, but BMW is the same as the LR.
Is this supposed to be a safety feature

Here are some pictures I took today - Sorry the quality is a bit poor but should give you the idea.
1) normal reversing mode no beeps yet
2) staring to beep and middle two sensors are shown as yellow
3) Beeping getting a bit excited now sensors showing amber
4) Beeping getting decidedly annoying now - Sensors turning red (interesting that the left one isn't showing yellow/amber)
5) All sensor showing red - continuous beep - rear bumper about 9 inches from front of the Merc.
Also attached one of the side views - I remember reading on a posting here recently that the views were very distorted (like the ones shown on the L/R Handbook) but on my car they have managed to straighten them out quite well.
Just wish they would enable the wing mirror downlights (the ones that come on when you unlock the doors) when the side cameras are on at night - otherwise they are pretty usless in low light/dark
