Tyre Pressure Monitoring System |
|
Has anybody fitted this system to their D3? I'm thinking about fitting it to mine and am wondering if it is a straightforward job eg replace current valves with new ones, fit appropriate switch to dash, connect up to existing wiring loom(?) and get stealer to activate. Is it really as straightforward as that or am I living in cloud cuckoo land?
Presumably the switch would fit in the panel to the right or left of the door locking/unlocking switches. Anyone got any ideas? 06MY TdV6 HSE
Thanks

Except dealer generally will not enable stuff like this, not sure whether the faultmate system or autologic can do this I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Not overly sure it's worth it IMHO - I've had similar systems on BMW X5 and M5, and our current A8, and they're all crap. Far too many false positives so you rapidly learn to ignore it or better still, just disable it completely. L322 FFRR V8 - Gawn

As well as the transmitters in the wheels you'd need the receivers (that presumably fit on the suspension or in the wheel arches somehow) and the associated wiring if it's not already present. You'd need to buy a new switch panel with the TPMS switch included (though ISTR they're fairly cheap), then there's getting it activated and hopefully working...
Probably far cheaper and simpler to go for an after market unit, even cheaper still to just check your tyre pressures manually...... The End

Better to spend the £'s on a decent compressor IMHO, its alright kowing you have a problem with pressures, if you have no means of doing anything about it what is the point - a compressor with guage can not only check the pressure, but be used to adjust it as well. Much more useful I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Kind of been discussed here with prices etc, a dealer will not be able to activate it as it is part of the CCF (Car Configuration File) that only Landrover factory can access.
The Faultmate MSV may be able to activate it, seems like a lot of work and setting up.

I'd opt for fitting a wireless system. I've heard good reports about the Tyresure TPMS. Iirc it costs about £150.

If you have metal valve stems you have it. If they are rubber then you don't. I have the Tyresure TPMS and love it. 2000 Discovery 2 Kent Green (totaled) R.I.P.

Not sure about OEM version, but few people have fitted the aftermarket ones, Wigg's had a good thread as I recall with the details, but I can't find it now

Having read all the responses in this thread I've decided not to bother with this addition. Many thanks to all who responded and helped me make my mind up!

you can buy dust caps that are green when pressure is ok, and red when they aren't. Very simple system, they come pre-programmed for temperature and are less than £20 a set. I've got a set on all the cars, just check them when washing the car.

I have fitted an after market system. See my gallery. It has saved me at least 1 tire with the early puncture warning and thus preventing sidewall damage. Easy to fit and very reliable. See http://www.digitire.co.za/TPMS-201-S.php or http://www.tyredog.zylux.com.au/
The Tyredog is the easier of the two to fit but not as reliable (faulty sensors after heavy off-road or water) Ren Colyn

Someone on our US forum reported that the factory TPMS on MY2010 (FFRR, but it makes no difference as the system should be the same on Disco4 and RRS as well) uses different and incompatible hardware compared to 2009 and earlier model years. Just a heads-up should you be thinking of transferring D3 wheels with factory pressure sensors on a D4. You may get a TPMS fault as a result. Umberto B
