I have a good question for all the guys here...the "winter2 guys!
The Disco i am buying need to replace tires..so i am thinking about buying:
Kumho KC15 255/60 R18 112H XL
and use it all the winter and in spring time buy a set of 19" alloys and fit MT/R....
what do you think???
any suggestion for different kind of winter tires??
Thanks to every one and cheers form Italy!

Welcome
What sort of weather do you get in winter? as that might influence the suggestions you are given I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Welcome Toni,
There are also quiet a few offers on 19' and 20" rims and tyres. For the same price as 4 new winter Kumho's you might have 4 new 19 or 20" rims with nearly new tyres to get you through the winter.
Just a hint............ CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Unnecessary quote removed
...looks interesting! but where?!?!
anyway here in Italy last year was for one entire month -10° (min -13°) with some snow...and them started to rain a lot...so this is why i am thinking about this possible solutions.
Right now my rims are 18"...but i am going to buy 19" for good MTR...
I have also a Mini Cooper and every winter i use to fit my spare set of rims with winter tires...always been good for me!
Suggestions are welcome!

I have Continental Winter Contacts in 255/60/18 on mine and they were superb in the alps in February and equally good in deep, fresh, wet snow over here. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Here inNorway the stealers normally supply the Pirelli Scorpion Ice on 18" rims as "standard" winter package.
I have these tyres but I have not used them in the wintertime yet.
I live on the west coast and we get a lot of changing weather, and temps up and down.
Most of the time its around zero.
There is a debate on wether studded tyres are the best for heavy 4x4 machines and I have driven a 110 on studless tyres for 3 seasons, and have had only one situation where I got stuck, however I don't think the few mm of studs on the tyres will make so much difference. I have aslo driven normal cars on stud free tyres in 10 years and have had minor problems where the only thing that helped were chains.
Sorry a disgression.
good luck with your choice of tyres.

I was recommended Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme XL 255/60R18 (112H), in the UK you can pick them up for less the £150 per corner and as soon as I can afford the £600 outlay, I'll be putting them on my spare set of 18" rims.

What is the x/s on your insurance, if the Vredestiens are considered far better than others, is it worth trying to find cheap rubber that might lead to you needing to make a claim (costing more than the saving) after a slide on snow/ice that you would not have had on the better/more suitable tyres.....just a thought I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. Toni - I've had no problems with my winter tyres on 18" rims (Pirelli Scorpions Ice & Snow 235/65R18). They Have been great on all ice & snow I have met in the Alps during the last 2 winters. With these & TR, my D3 has been unstoppable, even when all around are having to resort to chains...

I have pirelli snow and ice winter tyres 255/60R18 which I used in Switzerland last year on my Disco 3. They were unstoppable in the heaviest snow and chains are not necessary with these tyres. They also provide a perfect ride on clear tarmac, exactly the same levels of refinement as the standard ones. I have now bought a D4 which has 19inch wheels and will need to buy a new set of winter tyres again, annoying as the set for the D3 have only had minimal use. However the added safety factor of winter tyres even in UK is enough to justify this, never mind the massive advantage in the Alps. I researched types but could find no objective comparisons on type and so I stuck with what I had and went with the Pirellis, with absolutely no regrets. My local tyre depot charges £50 to swap them over and stores them for free. I'm hoping they may know someone who wants them Titan
