Fitting D4 Mantec

Not sure if anyone is interested but as the D4 Mantec plate differs from the D3 one here's a few pictures.

As it comes:

As on the D3 remove the central plastic valance which covers the recovery point. then you need to remove the two "spats" this requires a T30 torx driver (1x screw each side) and a philips screwdriver (3x screws each side). Once the spats are removed refit the T30 screws.

The 13mm hexhead bolts at the back are also removed as these are replaced with 15mm hexhead longer ones.
The fitting points are the same as one the D3, and tighted up the 4 bolts to 68Nm and you also then refit one of the philips screws either side to hold the wheelarche liner onto the valance.

Here's it fitted - note it's not a tight fitting to the bumper as the D3 one, there's a noticable gap between the top of the plate and the bumper (I took it off to double check that I hadn't used the wrong mounts, but that appears to be the way the new one fits):

Here's the tools and bits you should expect left over (minus the central valance as I forgot to include it in the picture Thud):

Not contacted Mantec, but the gap kinda makes sense, it lets more air into where the intercooler sits.

EDIT:
See my post below showing pictures of two LRE D4's - currently waiting to hear back from Mantec.

Well that looks a good fit compared to the one Bill Wright tried to fit to his D4.
Think he had to go back to supplier with his ... the gaps were way out.

I'm hopefully going to get to see some LRE D4's tomorrow at Eastnor so will compare those with mine and report back.

MR H

I've just had mine returned from Mantec after being re-jigged. They got a D4 from LR and tried my guard on it and discovered it was wrong although it matched their patent shape for the D4. When I originally fitted it, it had a 30mm gap at the top and the side contours were way out. The re-jigged plate gap is 20mm on the right side and 15mm on the left side and the contour still looks like cack. I've been in touch and they say that they will send me one of new batch being made next week. If that's no better, they're saying

"if the new guard we send still does not fit the vehicle properly I can only suggest taking the vehicle back to the dealer and checking the body work is fitted correctly, we have had issues in the past"

It's hardly accurate engineering and I am very disappointed. On my D3, the plate fitted flush almost to the base of the bumper.

I'd be interested in your observations sat Eastnor and pictures if possible.

Hope this helps

Pictures in my gallery of the first fitting

Ok Guys, back on topic. As promosed I've been to LRE Eastnor today and the friend folks there let me have a really good snoop around one of their D4's - Many thanks Dave Thumbs Up

The four D4s I looked at all had nice, closely fitting Mantec plates - yes there was a minor gap, but no more that 3-5mm. Another thing you'll notice on the pictures is that the plates have the two cuts welded back up to form a solid plate.

Now just awaiting for Mantec's response next week - will keep you posted.

That's a much better fit and I'd be happier with that. At least the front edge follows the upward slant of the bumper at the ends. Let's see what MANTEC send me when they make the next new batch. The cuts/splits on mine are welded on the top of the guard but only for about 30mm of their length.

Just got a new Sump Guard from Mantec. It's marginally better in that the 20mm gap is now 12mm and the 12mm gap is now 5mm but the fit is not as good as those LRE vehilces in earlier photos.

What to do eh? I'm getting jazzed off with the tooing and froing. I guess that it'll do the job that it was intended to do and I'll have to live with it. Not a good advert for Mantec though.
