Calling iPhone, iPod touch, Android and other mobile users..
Dear all,
I'm looking at making some improvements to the site to make it easier to use on the tiny weeny screens on the iPhone, iPod touch, Android and other mobile devices.
If would be really helpful if users of the above devices (or similar) could let me know if there are any features or functions on the site which are tricky to use on a mobile device.
I've made a start by reformatting the nav menu (Home / FAQ / New Posts etc) for mobile devices, feedback for this would be appreciated too
Cheers,

"Smiley" activity can be very tricky TBH21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

generally no problems using teenie weenie iPhone screen, can even now cut and paste. Saying that, can't copy/cut code for pictures in galleries for some odd reason that is way beyond my tech pay grade.

Not got any real issues. I use the iPhone to browse the site, not really replied to any posts with it, although as DG says Smiley use is a bit tricky when you do, but I think that is a quirk of the way data is input into the phone, with highlighted boxes for text input then scrolling let to the smiley panel.
Probably DSL or Bodsy will give more input as i think they are the biggest iPhone surfers

same as above really site funcitons fine if you can live without a smiley to visualise you emotion!
there may be some on samller data packages and if so loading all the avatars will nibble away at their limit.
if you could recognise a mobile browser and give the option in settings that may help? same though to the embedded pictures in threads?XC90 T8 R Design Pro

If you could have a small icon or somethign that tells you when you have messages in your inbox, somewhere near the top of the normal page, that would be great, but not the large graphics block that currently has the messages scrolling. Bodsys Brake Bible
Message entry box is far too big (scrolls on an iPhone, and I haven't worked out if you can zoom out when you are entering text)
Latest post button on new posts list is too small
Apart from that... no problem with it the way it is.

site works like a charm generally (iPhone3G)
I second the comment about the message window being a bit large, ie. you have to scroll quite a bit to get to the emoticons, or to the 'send" button, but they do work, and I am not sure how you could imrove it. The fact is if you are pressed for time or don't have PC access, and have to respond to a post or message from your iPhone, it is possible.
haven't found a site that works any better - have referred many times to disco3.co.uk as a great example of how a BBS should work (and Martin you know I am not trying to blow smoke up your..)

Martin,
I use an HTC Touch Pro with the Opera broswer and find that the text box formats too wide for the screen. So as I type the text goes of the screen and I can't see what I'm typing.
I will be at the SE Christmas meal if you're going to show then you can have a play with my phone and see what I mean.
A much simple text based site would be ideal for mobiles as it would be just text and would load much quicker. I assume that could be fairly easy to do if everything is in a database.
Hope that helpsD3 HSE MY05 Auto

YES!
That's a bit of a quiet feature, never knew about that.
I like that, but it could do with a bit of expansion so allowing people to reply to threads (couldn't see how to do that) and also the ability to view new posts?
I'd use that loads, I don't like having to wait for graphics to load over 3G or worse.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Could do with a page selection at the top as well as bottom on a multiple page thread as it's easy top go to top of page on a iPhone by tapping near top of the screen but we don't seem to be able to Do the same to jump to the bottom of the page (or I can't find out how to)
