D3 in winter conditions
Hi All
My current tyres will probably not be up for replacement this side of winter. They are Bridgestone Dueler Sport 255x60r18. I just wanted to know what the D3 is like in winter conditions on standard road tyres, I know some of it is down to how you drive but I have not had my D3 through a winter yet
Thanks
Darren

I come from Northampton, you'll be fine on what you have. seriously it's good in the snow.
MTR or ATR would be better, but I don't think you'll have a problem. Bodsys Brake Bible

Had our first winter in the Disco last year. Had almost-worn-out Scorpion Zero's on during the snow and ice. I found traction was amazing, even up slippery hills but stopping took a looong time. Try the brakes before you need them!
Now have Pirelli ATR's which I'm hoping will be better, but if I was just looking for a road tyre that would improve stopping distance in the winter I'd consider the Vredesteins Wintracs - although they're a winter tyre they seem to be OK all year round in the UK and they're not too expensive either.

I had to do some forced journeys last year here in West Yorks....very icy frozen slush on tarmac
My tires were standard HSE Scorpions (crap in the wet)
My Disco performed flawlessly even on the substandard (way beyond "they should have been changed tyres")
so all the automation on top of a superb 4x4 system proves the point...
The performance on a Disco 2 in snow & ice was legendary....the Disco 3 improves on this
I now have Vredestien wintrac tyres on the recommendation of on hereBREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

To provide a bit of balance... first winter with the D3 (2006) I took it in the mountains with worn scorpions
Alpine snow ice and steep inclines had me heading for the dealer to stick on some snow tyres in short shrift ...
After all, there are limits TDV6 HSE AUTO
Defender 90 CSW
Worn scorpions going downhill last year near where we live had no traction in snow. Only option I had was to crash the car into a wall to avoid 3 parked cars, got a £1,000 insurance bill to prove the Disco can't do everything.

Agree with GrenobleLandy. In my experience Pirelli Scorpions are terrible in the snow, there's not much fun in 2.7 tones out of control. But I'm used to driving on proper Nokian winter tyres in the winter.son of less tech-literate 2007 LRD3 owner (unmodified 'arctic frost' TDV6 HSE auto)

drivng in the snow is not advisable - its always better to stay at home unless your journey is absolutly necessary Duncan

I made the mistake of engaging hill decent to early (still travelling to quickly down a hill) in the snow last year, just slid me towards the kerb (I wasnt sliding before! ) . The electrikery doesnt account for manual error

I was told a snow avalanche can start with only one degree of slope, worth bearing in mind with any 4x4 at a speed on snow above walking pace...

Had some very heavy snow in Essex in February this year - left the D3 at home and used the D1 which runs on AT2s. No problems at all!
