Cam Belt Change
Has any one change the cam belts and how long did it take. Was it easy do you need any special tools?
Cheers

I think you need a special tool to do the aux one but I'm sure someone like TFC can confirm that. Mine has just been done on the 105k at Main Dealer (a lot of indi's either wont do it or are pretty expensive) for £550. In for 1 day.

I must admitt - I have a nervousness about using an indie - first one I called claimed 'TDV6? - dont have belts, use chains' , second one reckoned to have done it before and seemed to know what he was talking about
Pretty horrible thought if they get it wrong

mine is being done as we speak at MJFews - £700. car is in for 2 days. you need to double check that they change both front and rear belts, as the quotes i got varied enourmously - std price about £800. some of the cheaper quotes didnt change the rear belt i wasnt keen on an independent doing it as most havnt done one yet !! - although paganuk had his local indie do it fo less.
i've also asked dealer to keep the aux belt for me as a spare..Duncan

The TDV6 has two belts one at the front and one at the rear, a lot of main dealers will do the change by taking the body off the car as the belt at the rear is difficult to get to. However if it does let go it doesn't do any damage, it will just cut the engine out. The belt at the front is the main one to worry about. You will need a special locking tool if you are going to do the job. I am doing mine on Saturday (if the weather is ok) so I'll let you know how it goes and I'll try and take plenty of photos.
The locking tool cost about £150, I think it will be about a 4 hour job, it depends on the rear belt as to do it without taking the body off requires using mirrors to see what you're doing. I think a lot of people don't bother doing the rear as it doesn't cause damage. Not that you want the engine to fail when you're down a greenlane etc.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

They sure look strange with the body up in the air and the heavy bits still on the ground.
Seen a couple of them like that at the dealers, when I have had the misfortune to call.Member of the carrot crank club
