Tailgate Stuck Closed - Grounds for MOT failure???

Currently got non functioning tailgate so cannot open at all - looks cable/latch related Big Cry

D3 due in for MOT in a week and do not believe going to have the tailgate sorted by then - question is does it need to be fully functional at MOT ?

Not an expert but I've never seen an MOT tester check a rear door. However, from the link you will see that rear doors may have to be opened to gain access to testable items. click here In the case of a 7 seater, I guess a tester may open a rear door to check 3rd row seat belts

Doors

Information

This inspection does not apply if no drivers or front passenger's doors were fitted as part of the original design of the vehicle.
A lack of door handles because of original design characteristics or specialist modification is not a reason for rejection provided the door can be latched securely in the dosed position.

Method of Inspection

Open and close the drivers and passengers' doors. Check that each latches securely in the closed position. Check also that front doors can be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle.

Reason for rejection

a. A driver's or any passengers door does not latch securely in the closed position
b. a driver's or front passenger's door cannot be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle from the relevant control in each case.

Note: Reason for rejection 1 b does not apply to:
. goods vehicles modified for the carriage of high value cargoes such as armoured security vehicles
. front passenger doors if the door aperture has been permanently 'filled' as part of a specialised customisation provided that there are no obvious aperture gaps.

Doesn't appear to be any issues relating to the tailgate TBH

But have just found this:

Quote:

Load Security

Information

Original Design
Original vehicle design characteristics are to be accepted.

Temporary Fixings
Components secured with, for example, rope are not acceptable-

Method of Inspection

Load Security

1. Check that any bootlid. tailgate, loading door, hinged tailboard or dropside is or can be secured in the closed position.

Spare wheel and carrier

2. Check that any externally fitted spare wheel and/or carrier Is securely attached to the vehicle.

Reason for rejection

Load Security

1. A bootlid, tailgate, loading door, hinged tailboard or dropside cannot be secured in the closed position.

Spare wheel and carrier

2. An externally fitted spare wheel or carrier insecure to the extent that it is likely to fall off.

Seems that as your tailgate is securely locked shut ...it fulfils the criteria Thumbs Up

The only way it might cause a failure was if it failed to open from the inside. However, the d3 tailgate doesn't have an internal release, so this is not a problem ...

ISTR if you hold both lock and unlock buttons on the dash for 5 secs or so ...it pops the upper tailgate Wink

It don't matter for the MOT so it passed !!!!!!........ Very Happy
