Fuel Usage iphone App - interesting results |
|
I downloaded the 'Road Trip' (Darren Stone) App to my iphone for accurate fuel readings. Its been a bit different to the readings on the D3.
Filled up twice and my ave is 23.6 mpg based on 839 miles
The trip on the D3 computer was stating 26.4 mpg
So nearly 3 mpg difference between the two systems - this is based on miles done and fuel added.
I'll update this and see where is goes. Maybe run this for a few months then stick a remap on and see where that goes.
Note that this is on an Auto with ATR's on.
(note: Not complaining about fuel usage as I love the car and wouldnt change it, even if it was 15 mpg! ) My Youtube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/NeilDisco#p/u/5/Dz4-Q95GQ2c

I also have this and got a similar when I input the data.
My trip was showing 23-24mpg before the BAS map, then went up to 26-27mpg and 30mpg on a run. Putting the details into road trip when showing 26mpg it threw out a proper 21mpg. That's on MTR's as well.

None of these external measuring methods take into account fuel consumption with the engine idling and motor stationary .............the on-board unit however does 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I use Excel to measure fuel consumption, based on exact pump readings and miles from the odometer (1 decimal).
I now have 32 full tanks' data, with an average range of 317.8 miles per tank (max 400.7, min 213.4).
On average, the D3 burns 13.92 litres per 100km (lower is better - I think it's about 20.7mpg) when the D3 has on average recorded 12.2 litres per 100km (not got mpg to hand as file is at home). Dreadful , but most of the mileage is done in urban environments.
I think one fundamental parameter which I am unsure about is the fuel tank capacity (stated in the manual as "about 82 litres", though like DG says, my calcs are averages (not taking into account idle time). However, factoring idling in, the lt/100km should be even higher (further away from the car's reading) - or conversely the mpg lower....

LOL, yes, I was thinking whether to post this or not
Little netbook lives in the car, gives me something to do while filling up (and trying to decide on the Faultmate )
