Transmission Fault, HDC Fault and Suspension Lowers - WEIRD!
Started up the beast 2 days ago and all hell let loose - Transmission Fault followed by a message saying that all my gears may not be able to be used, then HDC fault flashed up and finally the suspension lowered to access height. I could only travel around 50mph as the revs got a bit noisy at 3000.
So stopped at a garage and when I fired her up again all waa normal! Expected never to see the fault again as I know the onboard computer can play up sometimes.
Until today when it actually happened when driving - exactly the same sequence. I pulled over, turned her off and waited 60 secs. Restarted and she was fine again.
Ill take her in to the stealers but any ideas? Anyone seen this one before???
Cheers

yes, search site for something like power loss. ISTR EGR valve or low battery. A clever person will no doubt be along shortly to correct me.There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

Fuel filter
56 plate, so i am assuming its a 7A chassis? For some reason, the fuel filters from 07MY onwards seems to block more often than pre07, causing the same faults you describe. Usually happens under full throttle in a low gear...
If new bulbs dont fix it though, i have a spare filter in the shed My D3 Build Thread
I had very similar propblems to this about 18 months ago. The car was at the dealers for about 3 weeks in all and they were never really able to tell me what the problem was. They did find some long outstanding recalls which the local service centre I'd used hadn't cleared, and also an 'unrelated' problem with the fuel injectors but it remained a mystery as to why the car behaved as it did.

First time it happened was from a cold start and second time was going round a Roundabout so I must have been breaking.
I have just read the buld thread - I changed a rear brake bulb at the beginning of Jan with a Halfords kit bulb! Strange that it would not have casued any issues until now if it is this bulb.
But that said nothing surpises me anymore! Im amazed that a bulb could cause such a dramatic faliure.
Thats like saying - Odd all my tyres exploded today....errr did you fill up the washer reservoir!
I am going to replace it immediately and see how I go. The other suspect was low battery I here. I guess I can get the stealer to check this?
Any other potential causes?
Cheers

Title Incorrect or blown stop/side light bulbs causing gearbox faults
Last Modified 05-MAY-2009 12:13
Category Electrical
Symptom 201000 Lighting Systems
Content
Issue
The customer reports engine or gearbox faults after replacement of the stop/side lamp bulbs or the bulb has blown.
Cause
The incorrect bulb has been fitted to the rear lamp stop/side holder. The customer may have fitted a single filament bulb which can be, if forced, inserted in place of a twin filament stop/side lamp bulb. This has been known to cause a number of more significant failures on the vehicle the main one being the gearbox goes into default mode.
Note:
If the bulb has a broken stop/side lamp filament this can also give the same symptoms.
Action
To prevent any unnecessary and expensive repair please carry out a visual check of the brake and side lights before carrying out any further work to the engine and gearbox.
The part number for the stop/side lamp bulb is XZQ000020
