humungous nav buttons on htc hero |
|
Since I've returned from hols I've noticed that the main nav controls of disco3.couk have grown to huge dimensions on my hero.
the "Home · FAQ · New Posts · Private Messages · Search · Members · Members Map · Calendar · Groups · Profile · Donate · Log Out" controls are in a very large font surrounded by boxes, as are the pagination controls. Andy

They're bigger "on purpose" for mobile devices so you can poke the buttons better on the teeny screen

Are they coming up ridiculously large on the Hero? 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

They are a little large, it means they won't fit across the screen in one line anymore.
It's ok if the iPhone users need buttons this size though - you need to be 'backward' compatible Disco 5 HSE Lux

They're not supposed to be in one line, the screen is too small for that to be possible unless they're tiny. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

On capacitive touch screens, such the Hero, it's not necessary to have large targets. The whole point is the screen can determine what it is you're trying to hit from the imprint of your thumb. Going are the bad old resistive touch screens which require you to be accurate and, in the extreme, make you use a stylus (e.g. some of the older windows devices).
I say, keep the targets small and let the phone do the work as designed
And yes, the buttons look silly on the Hero. I'll post a screen shot when I get back to the office tomorrow. Andy

When I've used my iPod touch (capacitive screen) the menu links were very difficult to hit correctly at default zoom, hence the tweak. Mobile device site/app design guidelines are for more buttons and fewer fiddly links.
Would appreciate the screen shot, thanks. As I'm sure you can appreciate I can't justify the purchase and ongoing cost of every single handset to try these out, so I'm reliant on user feedback 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
