windscreen washers & cold weather
hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows what to do when the windscreen washers stop working due to (i think) severely cold weather as low as -12 deg C. Unfortunately I didnt have any antifrost in the water resevoir as we generally have mild weather where i live.
Thank you,
Lloyd

add neat windscreen wash to washer bottle and hope it will start to defrost...
you could run along the pipe with a hair dryer, but i would just wait for them to thaw naturally.Duncan

And change the fuse to 15a one as the 10a one just blows! At -12c you'll need neat screenwash, your reservoir won't thaw out til it's well above zero unless hairdryer works. Know thisfrom moving to the highlands and having summer stuff in there. This year working at -10, must do better!!

I take it your D3 doesn't have the winter pack on it then? I found that my old D3 winter pack worked well, but my new D4 with heated winsdscreen washers as standard, isn't really up to the job, and that's with practically neat screen wash in it as well. Temp down to about -7 the other day and it froze. I can almost accept the -15 that we had during the week, but surely the trace heating should take care of -7.... you'd think.
Only thing I've found useful is to carry a bottle of warmish water in a bottle with a spray nozzle, or an used bottle of Fairy filled with water. Roll the window down and squirt some of it on the windscreen as and when needed. Either that or any time I'm stopped (say at light or at a junction) I run out and chuck some snow on the windscreen. Anything really, to give you some much needed vision. If in doot, flat oot!!

I had this problem this week on my work Nissan navara.
I topped off the washer bottle with hot (not too hot) water, this thawed out the reservoir, the syphoned out the contents..... tastes nice !!!!! Then, after changing the fuse, ran the washers till empty.
Then topped up with halfords screen wash (-15 rated), and they have a 3 for 2 offer on, Hasnt frozen again since Monday.
Have been carrying a thermos of hot water to poor over the jets to unfreeze them.Got our Disco... Love it.....
