Hi,
wondering if anyone has an informed view as to which brake vacuum pump is of superior quality - Bosch or Pierburg? finally found oil in brake servo with scary braking moments. I believe pierburg where the original LR choice?
cheers

Pierburg were the original PSA choice, there was a modification made to the non-return valves on the vacuum pump and revised pipework which yours should have had done as a recall. If you have a single pipe on the vacuum pump, it's not been done, if you have, remove the pipework and have a look at which port has the oil in it, that's the valve that needs changing.

thanks for that. original recall don way back 2010 as with many this did not stop eventual oil getting to servo. I guess you advocate for fixing the valve and not replacing whole pump. as the car is now 16 years old I am thinking a new pump may be in

you could try pushing LRCS, most of the 'failed' modifications were down to one or both valves being fitted incorrectly, leading to a small, but cumulative amount of oil building up in the brake booster.
It'd be worth pointing out once some resistance is encountered that other brands (Mercedes, & Volvo for example) not only issue safety related recalls but carry out goodwill work on vehicles that haven't seen the inside of a dealership for many a year, regardless of how many owners it's had - or some nebulous measure of 'brand loyalty'. Regardless of that, the original fix hasn't been carried out correctly and should be rectified by LR, it's not your fault or problem that it took so long to re-emerge as a concern.
