GMC 6.5 in D3
I'm suffering with a major conflict, what to do with my D3 do I stick another 2.7 in or shall I look at the alternatives.
Just wondering if anyone had done this before??
Maybe might be the first, I know there is a lot of mods for BCU etc but maybe I can get around all that with hack. Or just rip it all out.D3 2005 S Manual

Sorry woffmister, can't comment specifically, but I imagine that the 6.5 litre GMC might be a bit heavy or a bit large for the opening.
The original engine was designed to meet a 200 kg limit and had a CGI block to help keep the overall mass down.LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Surly a V8 conversion would be better, but economically I think its a dead end, unless you want to do it for the fun.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Someone must have done some alternatives here? Or heard of one that has tried and failed.
I've done a couple of shoe horning projects before but only using 3.5 v8 and the 200 TDI, this would be a different beast.
My crank broke on way to Birmingham Airport no warning and its not worth the rework to fix engine
I've looked at buying a jag to swap the block but that's as far as it has gone, currently she's divorced from the chassis while we think on what to put in.D3 2005 S Manual

In reality the gmc engine isn't a patch on the tdv6, both performance wise and refinement.
If you want and willing to try different then a tdv8 engine is the way to go.Just remember:-

how about a cheap jag petrol V8 ?
although a jag 2.7 would be so much easier and it's just plug and play, and you stand a good chance of it working in the end!

Been reading quite a it just recently on a yank mechs forum, not one of them has a good word to say about any of the american v8 diesels fitted to their pick ups, they are either to slow/low powered or highly strung unreliable bits of junk.
