Ridiculous Sat Nav Directions
What on earth is wrong with the settings on the Premium D4 Sat Nav?
I have noticed several times that it has taken me off a main road, down a couple of lanes ... and back on the main road again.
To cap it all, last week I was travelling home with a very straightforward motorway journey coming south - M1 to A14, and off at the first junction. The sat nav told me to get off the M1 at Nottingham, drive right over to the A1, down the A1 and almost all the way back on the A14. Completely and utterly barmy. It would have added at least an hour to the journey, and used half a tank of extra fuel.

I sometimes have the same problem with my TomTom.
Travelling down a two lane country road and it tells me to turn right up a side road, up to the intersection and turn back down the next road leading me back to the road I just turned off!!! I could even see the intersection I turned off of from the one I joined back on..... Life is not measured by how many breaths you take, but by how many moments that take your breath away...

My second-hand year-old FL2's sat nav did the same when I first got it and did a test drive from Stirling to Cumbria: it would want to take the first available junction off the motorway. However, I reset all the settings and that seemed to cure it.
I've done the same route with the new D4 and not had such dramatic and indirect sat nav guidance.
In the end, the best sat nav is probably a map and a co-driver.
However, at least the Land Rover sat nav gives you a choice of three routes rather than the dictatorial attitude of the Audi A5's one route and one route only. A colleague says his Porsche 911 is the same. Not wishing to be Godwinian, but I wonder if the Merc sat nav is the same?
The TTP function.....BREXIT - done properly.

VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Thanks highlandcow.
I assume resetting is simple? On the touch screen menu?
I have just come from a Merc with COMAND sat nav, which was much better than the D4 HSE. Much clearer, easier to use and no stupid directions!Paul

thats scary, I've had SWMBO state right turn while she's actually pointing left and on another stating we need to take the junction we 'just past' Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

D4 nav has attempted to take me off the motorway around the roundabout and back onto the motorway several times. NFI why.
And while we're here, the icons on the nav screen are suitable for a child not a fat fingered f like me, I spend half the time trying to correct wrong entries having pressed the three surrounding icons at the same time. 2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

Can't remember how to reset to the sat nav on the FL2 and haven't had to do it on the D4 (I'm away from home at the moment, so I can't check).
But you should check the route options for motorways and A-roads, etc.
May be the sat nav (in the FL2) is adaptive and remembers routes actually driven?
In the Merc, how many route options are you given?
As for the touch screen: I much prefer it to the Audi's wheely thing. With the the touch screen, I can jab the screen and do stuff much more quickly than twiddling with the Audi's knob.

Icons on D4 nav are smaller than on my previous RRS, maybe that's part of the extra 15 grand.2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

I have had various SatNavs that didn't like underpasses and flyovers, sent me off the road onto the roundabout and then back on again. D4 hasn't done it yet.
Most SatNavs have a shortest and a quickest setting which often makes a lot of difference, also the TMC may try to divert you if it thinks the traffic is bad on the previously selected route.2011 D4 Landmark, Mini Cooper SD Clubman, Range Rover Vogue SE
