My engine management light has just come on and doesn't clear when 'rebooting' (turning off ignition, removing key, locking vehicle etc.). The car drives normally and everything seem to work. I will probably have to visit my friendly garage to plug it in but was wondering if the diagnostics would give me the fault code rather than driving 30 odd miles round trip.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible and how to get the info (and interpret!)?

if you can get a fault code, type it into here http://www.canobd2.com/The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

EGR valve probably stuck open and NOT returning to closed position when you lift off the throttle...enjoy the 'extra' performance
EGR valves would not suprise me as the independant dealer I had the car serviced with flagged a problem back in Nov. As the car was still under warranty, I returned it a bunch of monkeys in Slough (dealership) who, needless to say, could find no fault and said that the independant was wrong! Luckily, I asked them to make sure the fault was noted at the time so I will be knocking on their dorr if I can get the code confirmed. On this, thanks for your offer grzesiul, depends where you are - I'll send a PM!

Mine just done the same thing but was a oil temperature sensor, I assumed it was going to EGR too but just shows its best not to jump to conclusions. Light on but power , smoke levels and pickup all normal and no other symptoms.

Mine did the same when it was EGR's...light came on. Stayed on for a while. Went away when I started up again later in the day...a couple of days later it came back and wouldn't go away...The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
