No tint but IR rejection on side windows

My HSE came quite dark tinted from the factory, however the passenger and driver door windows as well as the windscreen only have a slight tint and no heat rejection properties at all.

Factory Glass in domestic vehicles with UV rejection is quite common here, and Infra Red reduction is now pretty well standard in all GM/Ford domestics as well. From what I can find out, over here, it appears that IR rejection even on the real Range Rover, while available, is not a norm. Sound control glass from LR is on the vehicles kind of as a standard option, but not so re factory glass with Infra Red rejection properties.

Anyway, with some difficulty, last year I found a product that is virtually clear, but has Infra Red rejection qualities. I did not have the film installed on the actual windscreen however I did have the two front side windows done.

I would have to say, that to my surprise, it seems to work as advertised. The product is generically called "Windshield Film" or more specfically Air Blue by LLumar www.llumar.com At that time and to my surprise, 3M did not appear to have a similar product available.

From either inside or outside, one cannot really even see that there is anything on the windows, (the look I wanted), however under certain lighting conditions, when inside looking out, a vehicle or object will have a slight blue or purple tint to it.

My experience with Europe is that the sun rarely shines, and therefore IR is not a problem. For those however, testing the dunes of North Africa, IR rejection clear film has merit. An additional benefit is that the film is not liable to give the local constabulary cause to physically remove the film along with the associated glass.

I'll give you a hand there Christian.
I always fancied having a go.
When I saw Ben at Midland Tinting on Tuesday, he showed me a role of the stuff.
Looks just like darkened 'cling film'.
Now wife says I'm good at wrapping up the sandwiches,
so this window tinting lark seems like a bit of p!ss.
You are working on flat surfaces after all.
As a failsafe though, I'm sure there'll be instructions on the box.

Right, who's going to book-in for our first job?

Thumbs Up

ps, I'll bring along swmbo's Pifco dryer and my Stanley knife.

I just had mine done, fantastic job, they use a stand up mobile workshop with work benches and all their equipment in the back. The most interesting part was to see how they so easily remove the rear passeneger windows to ensure a FULL bonded finish, this is done without removing teh door cards, scary when you see how easy it is done, you will never leave the windows open for your dog again Shocked

I was given some 10% off vouchers for friends, as I don't have any friends I thought I would offer them here Razz Send me PM if you are interested and I will give you the details as I don't want to openly advertise on here. The cost is £160 less of course your 10% discount. All done at your place and takes about 1 1/2 hrs.

The company I use cover the S.E. M25 area, South London, N.Kent, even in Guildford this afternoon.

What I meant was openly putting up company names and tel numbers for all to see incl non members, just trying to help members but it seems we just are not allowed to help each other, I give up!

I'd never use a mobile fitting company

Its hard enough in controlled conditions to get it right

Well mine is superb and that was mobile, the workshop is used for side rear windows and the rest is all cut on the workshop then fitted to the car in the mobile garage, but you are allowed your own views Wink

Midland Tinting ....again !!!

Well popped in for my appointment with Ben and the lads at Midland Tinting yesterday.
I didn't want to go down the Limo look with Ugly Kid glass, as I don't have ugly kids!!
Plus in my opinion it makes a Java look like a van.
[my opinion only so no offence meant].
I planned & decided on 50% front and 20% for the rest.
Ben, Jay & Nathan did an exceptionally professional job in their clean and well controlled environment.
So here's their result:
