Got car from stratstone Milton Keynes - problems - Updated

So we finally got our D3 HSE from stratstone milton keynes yesterday .... and having issues already!

When we got home and started to look round the car properly, we noticed that the front passenger doors edge looked liked it had been opened against a wall - all scrapes down it to the bare metal! I can't believe we missed it when looking round the car, but then again it was on the door the salesman got in via to show my wife the controls. Also cant believe that stratstones 'thorough preparation' missed it as well.

Then started to go through the various switches etc, pulled the fog light switch and noticed the trim coming away (moving 1-2cm!) and top top this off as it moved the 'tray' under the steering wheel fell down - looks like it had been wedged shut as a clip appears to be broken!

Also a funny smell in the car - were putting that down to the cleaning products used, though the valet looks to have been carried out by Stevie Wonder given the amount of dust etc everywhere.

I called Stratstone back and am taking the car back to them next week - a nice 200 mile round trip.

So far wishing we hadnt bothered with this car as the ownership experience has been pretty negative.

much as i hate to say it, too many people get misty eyes when they collect a new car,

this just goes to show you really need to go over it all with a toothpick...

Its a shame that the D3 is'nt upto your level of expectation, BUT................look at it in the plain light of day, at worst you just need a proper valet, which they will do, a few clips or trim panel, which they will do, and the paint to sort out.

Its still a great car, and although a few niggles already, its not mechanical. ENJOY the motor

Agreed!

What makes it worse is that we spent about 30 mins with the salesman making a song and dance about the 10 yr old ML320 we were p/xing not being perfect.

After all that youd think the car they would be selling should be!

Going to go through the car inch by inch this week... and everything we see will be raised on saturday for them to fix.

And if they dont agree to im going to contemplate the 30 exchange thing.

Been almost burnt like this myself. Sounds a touch spoddish, but because - like AD said - I know I get carried away when picking up a car that I fail I have learnt to prepare a full checklist before I go and FORCE myself to stick to the bloody thing.

When I picked up my Disco from Lakeland (350 mile trip) had I not had my list I'd have missed:

- chewed rear seatbelts (very much MOT fail)
- Wrecked door seal
- No parcel/load cover

Other than that, the car was fine, but their attention to deal on prep was very poor (but service otherwise excellent).

If you can find a mate to take along as opposed to a wife, they tend to be good at snagging.

I am sure the dealer will fix it all for you.

Mac - agreed.. the car is lovely to drive ... and looks awesome, just i guess that when you buy a car from a dealer you expect it to be pretty much in good nick.

Having to go back and have bit repainted is an Censored !

Oh ... the load cover we only got when i said 'im surprised a car like this doesnt come with one'

Then the salesman went to get me one otherwise we would have driven away without it too!

Why on earth did you not inspect the vehicle before driving it away??

OMG .....get a grip of yourself Thud These are minor issues that will no doubt be sorted with a phone call.

Thats where you have to put on your Negotiating jacket. I would'nt take the car away unless the car is dealt with. Try emailing the dealer principle in advance and explain the issues, what you would want to happen as to rectify.

Request a courtesy car to be available as its inconvienent to repeat the A2/M25/M1 journey again and again, and agree a collection date.

Go through the D3 high n low, make a list of snagging points and attach that to the email too.

Just out of interest, and in no way am I condoning dealers not delivering vehicles as they should, but please try and remember that it is a 2007 (potentially 3 years old) vehicle, not brand new....

Although I would expect it to be fairly clean and have no major mechanical problems, what you've described sounds fairly unimportant and can be solved very easily Thumbs Up

Just remember, if it was as perfect as a brand new D3, then it would also cost the same as one... Whistle

Totall agree with you guys!!

It is a second hand car - and allowances def need to be made.

But missing paint and trim coming loose are in my book things the dealer should have picked up (and so should we!)

Thing is im sure what when i went round the car last week there wasnt mark on the door frame ... now not pointing fingers or anything but im sure id have seen it if there was.

Yesterday i checked the rest of the car - but never noticed the edge til we got home!

I picked up my D3 in early Jan from Matford LR & i have to say that their prep & attention to detail was nothing short of immaculate, Only ever dealt with RIPON LR, & LAKELAND before so MATFORD Had a lot to live up to !

I couldnt really pick fault with the car "But i did try" And i hate to say it but you should have looked round the car and checked for the little niggles that are annoying to find after purchasing, That said hopefully you were concentrating more on the bigger stuff, Spare tyre size, service schedule, owner count etc.

These are only cosmetic issues, if youre Turbo pop's i,d start thinking about deploying the 30 Day Exchange / Refund !

Speak to the Salesman,

Good Luck !

Exactly that!

I was doing the stuff id read on here - check tyre treads, check for body damage, rips to the seat, check service history (which im glad i did as they hadn't stamped the book!), check full size alloy under the car etc .... so all the stuff that was important!

The simple 'has the door been mashed against the wall check' .... that in my excitement i missed like a muppet!!!

RCUK the best thing to do is just call them tomorrow and say that you have noticed some issues that you would like resolved. Dealers do miss things no matter how much we say they shouldn't, just keep calm and collected and allow them time to resolve the issues.

Overall, don't let a few little resolvable things spoil the whole. Stop typing on here ...go out for a long drive, put them to the back of your mind and enjoy the driving experience. Thumbs Up

Its a shame you feel that way, at the end of the day the car isnt new its second hand.

We bought a 55 plate last July, in October I had both EGR's replaced, along with all ARB bushes. I replaced the steering wheel switches myself owing to the cruise control playing up.

In the last two weeks I have had new suspension compressor, pressure sensor and new discs and pads all round.

Luckily I have a mate who until very recently was a Land Rover technician, so has saved me a small fortune.

I love the D3, yes its not new but the feeling I get driving it when all it well beats anything else!

Hope you grow to like your car, just give it time!
