NFU renewal up even with "loyalty discount"

Renewal is due in a couple of weeks - letter through stating that I now qualified for an additional 12% discount on a nice shiny yellow thick paper - which drops my price by £96.25 from what it would have been.....

.......in which case how the heck has my premium jumped up by over £80 then??? Up to £741.13.

Is it not me or do I have ANOTHER years NCD, one of my prior claims is beyond 5 years now so should not be counted for, and the value of my car at risk will be lower - so why the hike?

NFU have gained massive market share in recent years, but in doing so have become exposed to a greater number of accidents, more than a pro-rata increase on their old agrucultural book. This has a lot to do with higher mileage drivers cottoning on the to service they offer.

Off the back of that, risk rating has increased. There's also the small matter of increased uninsured loss claims across the industry, which tend to get passed on to 2nd and 3rd year onward renewal customers (new customer rates being ringfenced against these losses to make the company look more attractive). Inertia plays a big part in peoples' finances, so ALL insurers use this approach.

You will get cheaper elsewhere, but I keep insuring with them because I can walk in to the office in Dorchester, have a pleasant chat with Charlie over the counter and sort out any issues I might have. Try that with "quote me happy"......

Worth getting a few comparison quotes and a) comparing cover b) negotiating with NFU.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Negotiate. And yes, as Al says. You get to deal with actual humans and no multi option phone systems.

They are slightly more expensive maybe, but treat you like a person not an account number Thumbs Up

Get a comparable quote elsewhere, and as said, negotiate. I did, and ended up with a £200 discount, and staying with NFU.

Gareth - do any of the comparable ones give 2 years new replacement cover (Gap Insurance) on vehicles up to two years old? If so could you point me in their direction please as that's where NFU are saying the difference is in my renewal. Thumbs Up

After a call this morning - the nice young lady in Ramsbottom (STOP SNIGGERING AT THE BACK) dropped the premium from an £80 increase to a £20 reduction.

One call - £100 saved.

Paid and happy.
