If the speedo reads above the actuall speed, as has been posted on other threads that too would mean the odometer was wrong... Would it not?

In which case your fuel economy would be evn worse than you calculate!!

Anyhow I get an avaerage of 10.5 l/100km on the computor and when I do the sums manually I get 11.2 l/100

Hi Kenny,
Not necessarily. Speedos are universally set high to allow a tolerance that regulations require (IIRC 0 to +3%).

There is no reason for the odometer to not be accurate.

Best Wishes,

I concur with Peter's statement. A couple of times I tested my odometer, speedometer, and GPS's recorded speed with a section of km markers on a new freeway south of Perth. The odometer and GPS recorded speed exactly corresponded to the roadside km markers, while the speedometer read about 4% high. As odd at is seems, LR have deliberately done this as they're required to conform to the laws, which in this case are intended to prevent the defense of, "But officer, I was doing the speed limit on my speedometer! It musta been the new MTRs I put on my D3."

I don´t think it is only LR, this seems to be a common practice of car manufacturers.

Wrong sized tyres would affect the odometer and speedo Wink

There is a good calculator here : http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual-tyre-size-calculator

Hi Dt,
Of course you are right, but the consideration here was for a D4 with standard tyres.

Best Wishes,
Peter
