MPG on computer different to real life, and less than LR say |
|
Had my Disco 4 3.0 auto for almost 2 weeks now, and I bought it with 7.5k on the clock, and 5 month old. So should have bedded in abit
Computer has always said mpg on trip A average at 23.8 ish
Worked it out last night on a fill over 221 miles and it came out at 21.2 mpg.
To be honest we`ve been taking it easy, but do live in Derbyshire with the odd hill or two
What are other folk getting?? Thought urban was meant to be 25mpg and combined 30mpg Cars:-MY11 Evoque SD4 Pure, MY12 Defender 90 XS & MY08 Evo X RS

Hi Forest,
I had my D4 for three weeks now and done approximately 1300 miles. My fuel range has never been less than 29.2 mpg and on long runs i'm getting 30.9 mpg.
Most of my trips have been long runs though - the odd 200 mile here and 300 mile there mostly MW driving.

Yes i have got the same problem can never get more then 390 miles to the tank full how ever i seem to drive it. should go back to the dealer this month. land Rover thinks it could be a fuel consumption problem All they have to do now is to stop thinking and 'do' something about it

Real life fuel consumption certainly doesn't appear to correlate with LR's own views.......

My Disco4 has got about 3000 miles now, computer says 27 mpg, really is 23, too much!!!
What is more, I havenot an heavy foot, and fuel consumption is always about 23/24 also if computer, for example, sometimes says 28/29...

Not sure if this helps but Autocar magazine (Steve Cropley) say that got 27 to start with but after 4000 miles (IIRC) he's getting about 30 now

Fuel economy figure are always 'optimistic' and fuel computers should always be taken with a pinch of salt.....one of the reasons why I always 'brim' my tank and take the mileage from the dash.
When I had my last disco chipped the fuel economy 'appeared' to improve on the fuel computer by 5% but in reality there was NO improvement and if anything was 10% lower around town!!!
Smoke and mirrors springs to mind when it comes to mpg!!

I've never really understood why peeps have an expectation that they will achieve the official figures, which are afterall achieved in exacting conditions ....as opposed to the real world. You are right John and we will see averages improve slightly as the FFBH use diminishes. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
