Maybe its the way the 'Club' has been setup and the underhand way that its used this forum is what rankles some on here. Then to come on this forum and ask that we all get on... hypocritical is a word that springs to mind.

I think it has been widely pointed out in this thread that there are numerous "club" opportunities, other forums and the like that anyone is able to join, whether there is a membership fee or not.
I cannot see any problem with the two alternatives existing side-by-side, and am sure that there will be a number of people who are active members of both. Whether that works in practice will depend, largely, upon those who choose the dual track.
However, the motives for which the new club has been set up could be, rightly, open to a degree of scrutiny, and the nature of the "launch event" in particular.

So, as I said above, how it all works out will depend upon those with feet in both camps.

I thought the 'Club' was restricted to registered users only ? How would anyone be able to read his posts then ?
Must be quiet in there considering he joined on Feb 7th 2010... and on God's day too
But there are ways with the internet...

This isn't going to sit well with some, particularly some of the long-standing posters...
If Disco3 wasn't so overly-managed and controlled, perhaps the 'need' for the club wouldn't have arisen?
in addition, a 'club' in terms of it's legal entity has certain benefits, commitments and rights including provision of insurance for members attending events, utilisation of subscriptions solely for the benefit of it's members, publication of club accounts and (for 'motor clubs') affiliation with the MSA...
How do you know where your donation (or 'site tax' dependent upon your opinion) is going on here? is it to fund server space or bandwidth? or is it to finance the Ltd. company that manages the sites next Jaccusi?
To be clear, i've no problem with anyone making money from this site (as I do, and presumably the other sponsors & Martin do) but the days of it being funded on a shoestring are long gone and it, along with other group sites, are clearly commercial entities. IMO it's time for a change, Martine needs to sort out his business plan, work out which bits of the site are 'subscription only' - in common with other sites - or have 'sponsored by' sections, the current (IMO) cluster of sponsorship rules and regulations stifles free speech and prevents genuine discussion on the merits or otherwise of ANY product, whether supplied by a current site sponsor or not...
BTW, sponsor should be changed to 'advertiser' to reflect the commercial nature of the posts
Other sites have a clear commercial policy where 'competing' advertisers have defined boundaries, TBH, on here, it's a mess - the posting rules have changed more times than i've had gin for tea (and thats nearly a lot) all of it seems to be based upon income rather than balanced opinion and equal rights across advertisers, worringly, it also seems 'wrong' that individuals cannot recommend a product or service from someone unconnected with them without the baying hounds of 'moderation' demanding the supplier paying a site tax before their product or service can be mentioned..... think i'm wrong? look at the number of threads / posts that start with 'apologies to mods if this is a commercial post' or 'hope it's OK to post this'
without up to date info & input relating to not only products, services and information from 3rd parties, this site and others will become dinosaurs (just like the unions did in the 80's) and become consigned to history by the users and eventually the google bots as life moves on....
Me? I'll carry on doing what I do as long as I can Don't worry, the Bombay Sapphire will kick in soon

But Phil, why have a forum that guests can't read whats going on too ?
but neil is very active on BOTH sites... even as we speak....
With respect, that's because he owns one of them...........
That's a bit of contradiction. you surely can't have a club, which should be run by a elected committee on behalf of members and have it owned by someone.
