I have noticed that the oil pressure warning light does not work. According to the book it should illuminate when ignition on and go off when started (obviously this is as you would expect). However on mine it never comes on. I was always looking for it where it was on the D3 but it is now on the top row of warning lights above the message centre. On advice from the dealer I called LRA who came out and agreed that it should be there but he could not find a fault on the diagnostic computer. Strangley despite having all the the parameters and indications for every temperature/pressure and all other readings he could not find an oil pressure reading. He recommended getting it booked in at the dealer for repair but Ok to use in the meantime as in the event of low oil pressure the engine would shut down anyway.
It is therefore booked to go in on Tuesday, BUT I have just been to the LRE centre at Eastnor (brilliant place and people by the way) and I checked 2 of the D4s there and both were the same as mine i.e. no oil light. Am I missing something here? are they all like this? anyone else noticed this? Is the book wrong? I would be very interested to hear as I don't want the car taken to bits for something that might not be a fault at all.
Thanks
Steve

Have just checked and no oil light appears at ignition switch on. It's in for assurance programme work on Tuesday, so will get dealer to take a look at it. 4 x 4 x Really Far!

Thanks JRL
I am surprised now one else has commented on this. I have now seen 4 different D4s and a RRS that are like this. Dealer has asked the question from LR tech support as to how it should be, but waiting for answer from Engineering.

If I recall correctly, the oil light on the instrument cluster can be set for either pressure or level, but not both. I wonder if, therefore, that it is set to "level"? Mine doesn't come on either, by the way, and never has. This is not a driver settable parameter.
If either pressure or level are out of parameter, you should get a warning message as well as a light.

Checked mine - ditto
Manual does refer to it coming on when ignition is turned on before engine start and when there is a pressure issue when running
Just keep checking the level regularly I guess - not exactly difficult

OK thanks guys
I still haven't had the 'official' answer from LR yet, but Winger's answer makes sense. Why doesn't the book say this?
