| Which roof rack, spare wheel carier, long range fuel tank? |

I am busy kitting the D3 for a trip to Botswana.
I am contemplating relocating the spare wheel to the rear of the vehicle to allow for fitting a long range fuel tank. A dual battery system is also on the shopping list as is a roof rack.
Would appreciate recommendations on which company's products should be used.

Roof Rack - Front Runner with Front Runner rails. Go for the longer legs so that you can fit the super handy alu folding table underneath the rack

I agree with Heine on the rear wheel carrier. The FR unit is stiffer and better made. Opens and closes with one hand too.
The dual battery and long range tank are accessories that we use on every trip. If you don't mind spending the money, the optima battery has to be tops. I have a genesys control unit, and have had no issues - but this is something that must be fitted properly - either do it yourself or watch the guys doing it.
I have the FR rack, but if I had the choice again I would buy one of the racks with rails that run front to back as opposed to across the width of the vehicle. I am convinced they would be quieter. That said, the FR rack is helluva strong - just make sure you spend the extra money on the FR rails though.
Like Deon, I appreciate the FR table that slots under the rack. I bought the half-size unit though - don't need longer legs for this either
IPod interface is mandatory

Thanks for the advice gents. Collected the D3 today with the following fitted:
1) Front runner rails, roof rack and ladder,
2) Front runner aux tank with protection plate,
3) Front runner spare wheel carrier,
4) Dual battery with Genesys control unit.
The D3 is now almost ready for the Botswana trip

I am also getting ready for a Bots/Nam trip. With the distances we need to cover between fuel stops, it either requires 2 jerry cans or an aux fuel tank. Add to this the fact that I need to deflate my spare wheel to fit underneath the vehicle, and the case for a RWC and aux fuel tank seems clear. What bothers me, though, is the "nuisance factor" of a RWC in everyday use when needing to open the tail gate. Any comments from the guys who have RWCs and especially from HLS re the latest Frontrunner one?
And, what was the cost of these items, HLS?

Yup it is a pain , but so is trying to change a spare when you have to unpack the whole boot to get to the winder

Very happy with the FR rear wheel carrier. Operation is easy and my 10 year old daughter is able to open and close the carrier. So far no rattles. SWAMBO did comment that it now takes longer to load and unload but it really is only a couple of seconds. I recon I would have to get a locknut for the spare wheel as it is now an easy target for the would be thiefs.
Cost of rear wheel carrier = R5600
Cost of aux tank with protection plate = R5800
Fitment = R1800
All done at LR Centurion - Lazarus fitment centre.
