Dealer has overfilled 3lt oil
Just had car serviced early(8000km), noticed oil leaking after 100km rear of motor down low and spraying along to the back undreneath, though better see how much has leaked out, "OVERFILLED",Lucky they must have known it was going to leak and put some extra in.(yeah right )
Any ideas as to probable damage, LR Aust insist it has to go back to same dealer ,
What a worry
Cheers Ken

My advice (FWIW) is to make sure they recover it to the dealer, unless they confirm, pref by email, that it's safe to drive there.
Sorry to hear of their incompetence. This could be serious. Depends on how well oil can get back down to the sump, and what air space there is above sump oil and underside of pistons. I'm afraid I don't know the inside of the engine well enough to comment.
What CAN happen is that if the return flow is restricted by an over-full sump, the oil from the oil-pump has to go somewhere and can be forced past seals to places it would normally not go. Also, the pistons battering up and down can pressurise the overfilled sump, again forcing oil to where it should not be. Obscure seals bursting many miles later, and contaminated breather pipes and traps show up sooner, but not always right away.
If the oil is drained back to correct level, then it is unlikely more damage would be done if you were driving a short distance back to dealer. It will be difficult in the short term to assess what damage has already been done. Certainly they should replace (or clean if they are designed to be cleaned) every trap and filter, and inspect every breather pipe for oil deposits. Where it has been forced past seals will probably only show with time.
Does their invoice show you have been charged for the excessive amount of oil?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Just had it towed away ,no way I was going to drive it,what about DPF would it have copped a flogging as well,
Oil was black makes me wonder if they drained it before they filled it ; invoice doesn't say how many litres just A$144 for oil.
Thanks for reply Cheers Ken
