NEW GEARBOX - Conandrum ...

I posted in other thread that LR Centurion wanted to "give" my D3 a new gearbox via Motorite Very Happy

They took the car to Gearbox spesialict lact week and the verdict is - NEW BOX -

They now wait for Motorite approval .......

My problem is SERIOUS

I am leaving for Bots and Nam on Thursday - LR Centurion says they will try and get approval tomorrow but even then box will take 3 weeks to get here from UK ....

THEY SAY - I can take D3 on holiday Shocked

If I do and it brakes in the middle of nowhere Big Cry

WHAT THE F#CK DO IDO ?

Guess it depends on how hardcore your trip is . Plenty of sand driving won't do it any good . What are the symptoms and why do they feel it needs replacing .

Justa jerky shift...

They just told this afternoon that there is a noise ?

The trip is not extreme at all - no towing just people weight in the car and luggage on RR etc...

Small sand trip into Bains Boababs maybe 1 day in and out Moremi the Nam on gravel rounds with again small sections of sand...

I am not in the mood to sit stranded ..... but I seem to not have a choice Censored

If I read your post correctly and the said you can do it , then I would give it a go . Problem is recovering a auto is a bitch , as you can't really tow it.

Yes they say I can take it - BUT

What if it breaks in Nam close to Ruacana ??? I will be "die moer in vir myself"

So the decision is taken - If you look at my sig you will see i also have a 1992 Disco 1 so we will slum it in the old Disco and some of the kids must just travel in our friend car as it does not seat 7 like the D3...

At least if the D1 breaks there was no forewarning and it is Manual so can be towed - I have a fixed bar with a tow hitch that I always load on the RR - it is called insurance Laughing

No aircon and no radio - maybe I will do something about the radio tomorrow 8) and at least it is winter - oops no heater also Whistle

Tx
Nico

So if you see a old Camel Trophy Disco 1 on tour in Nam - it will be me
