But it will be locked to the owners Disco so its no good for you, unless they have a full license kit.

Yes, I thought about that, is an upgrade to a multi-vehicle licence so much that it is worth getting my own MSV-2?

the fact that I have no idea what a CCF or MSV-2 tells me I don't have one
should I be worried about that? 2012 MY13 SDV6 SE D4 Ipanema Sand with Almond leather
2012 TDI Passat - they reckon the DSG is crap, I reckon it's awesome
2010 MY11 Mitsubishi Challenger - Gone (it was a "Challenging Year")
2007 MY08 TDV6 SE - gone

Well I bought one and its paid for itself already because I bought a remap and loaded that myself with the MSV and I also had a problem with my car that I could fix with it.
Its a belt and braces thing really you don't have to rely on the Dealer you can check for faults on the car yourself and clear them.
I did think of buying the full software suite myself as I am a Mechanic but my job took another route so I left it for now.
But to answer your question if you can afford it and your car is getting near the 3 years old mark then I would buy one.
Its a great product backed by very helpful support from BBS & BAS Companies.

Hi all
Yes just got my faultmate msv as well.
What has it done for me, sat nav screen now has the 4x4 info, bluetooth has voice control, and one of those annoying things, the rain sensor wiper has adjustments, factory is set to 1, I now have mine on 4 and much better.
As well I can read and clear all fault codes, my thinking was if I am say in the pilbara and the car won't start because of a fault code I can now find out what it is and have a bit more control without having to plug into a lr dealer
One thing I could not fix was the key in ignition ding, sad

Don't feel so bad and left behind Dan W
Not all that long ago, very few Disco 3 members had even heard of the FAULTMATE MSV-2 and even less of the CCF (Car Configuration file).
The MSV-2 was, and still is, not exactly pocket money, and back then, it really only read and cleared fault codes on all vehicle systems, although for many that is plenty enough reason to have one. I did however promise that it would be updated quite significantly free of charge and would eventually also allow the capability to do the sort of stuff everyone was quite sure was totally impossible. Enabling 4x4 info and ICE to name but two.
But then, unlike the members on this board, i already knew that we had already done exactly that many times over on all previous models. In fact we had already been producing equipment, with way beyond dealer capabilities, for nearly 12 years, and to me, conquering the Disco 3 to the degree we already have, was really an enevitability in due course.
There were of course many critics and doubters at the time, But thankfully there was quite a few members willing to give me half a chance, not least of all the boards Administration. I heartily thank all who have believed in me and invested in one of our systems.
The MSV-2 software has since seen several upgrades released for it, each of which has introduced new and quite astounding capabilities, The now infamous CCF back up and full Edit, Full EAS control and height adjustment, all ECU re flashing with any and all possible OEM software, to name but a few.
With each one it seems that owners are learning much more about how their vehicles work than they ever thought possible.
And of course there are more upgrades in the pipe, because just like all previous models, we keep going until there is absolutely nothing more that can be added.
I certainly do not believe anyone can possibly say we have not already proven to make more than good on our promises
It is now common knowledge that the MSV-2 has a degree of capability that puts dealer equipment to shame, and in fact the capabilities of the system are now so advanced that no owner will have possibly been able to fully try them all, and quite a few interesting possibilities have been discovered and reported on the board. I am quite sure that there are many more to be discovered.
Although it's cost has not changed, it's value and worth has definately increased quite dramatically and it has been quite some time since anyone has said that they think it is too expensive. In fact some members like Matt TDV6, having fully used the system to sort out his rebuild project then sold it on for not much less than the initial purchase price and you sure don't read any negative comments about it.
So while you don't exactly need to be worried that you don't have one, but you should be aware of what it can offer and seriously consider getting one or at least it's smaller brother the Faultmate FCR which many will attest to the benefit and surity that having one in yout glove box provides.
Clubracer, the cost of an MV system over an SV one is about double. For anyone wanting to upgrade, and very many do, we do not charge any more than the price difference to do so.
But frankly i would have thought your money much better spent on your own SV system that you can keep with you at all times and then resell on whenever you may no longer need it. You can also update this to say a Disco 4 for just an admin fee as well.

what height adjustments can be achieved with EAS?
I assume you cant avoid the "dropping from Off Road Height at 50km/hr issue???"

If you look on you tube under faultmate you can see the msv being used to do the different functions and no it won't stop the 50k drop.
If anyone in Adelaide wants to have a look I am happy to meet up

You can in fact with the MSV raise the suspension 25mm for normal on road height, it will not lower at 50 KPH as it believes it is at normal height, I use this regularly when 4 wheel driving and it will suit the set of Super Swampers I use in the mud. When finished my 4 wheel driving I then lower it back to normal height.

Thanks Richard
Been one hell of a week for me, so i am sorry not to respond myself sooner.
Quote:I assume you cant avoid the "dropping from Off Road Height at 50km/hr issue???
The holy grail. Nope, well not easily anyway. I have spent quite some time on this and explored a number of possibilities that have all unfortunay led to dead ends. I have not given up on some possibilities though and may revisit these if time ever permits.
In the meantime, The MSV-2 allows the stored calibration values for the height sensors to be adjusted to give an even height or correction whenever work is done to the system such as replacing a height sensor. The range of values allowed by the EAS is minus 50 to plus 50 with each being worth half a Millimeter. It works inverted so that dialling in Minus 50 on all sensors causes the vehicle to raise 25mm and of course lower 25mm if plus 50 is dialled in. All height options are then based off these initial calibration values, meaning that the vehicle would actually still be higher or lower in all modes than it thinks it is, so although the vehicle may drop to the normal height setting over 50KM/hr, it will actually still be 25mm higher.
I must stress however that this feature is provided by us specifically to correctly calibrate the sensors to achieve a level vehicle at factory heights. I certainly cannot condone its use for any other purporse and would advise anyone that we cannot be responsible for any possible stability re percussions of raising the vehicles centre of gravity by 25mm. Although i do note that it is possible to also do this with the Dealers IDS system simply by lying about the measured heights and deducting 25mm from the values you type in.
Although i have already detailed some of the oustanding capabilites of the MSV-2 in respect of what it can access and do on a vehicle, there is also a plethora of additional and very nice usability features. One is that any settings page can be saved as a HTML document and given any name you desire. these can be adited before saving. Then you can very quickly and simply reload any one of your choice and write it to the ECU.
For example, i have 3 called EAS-highest, EAS-lowest and EAS-standard so i dont have to faff with entering values or remembering the origional settings when i want to toggle between them.
On a side note, keep your eye on this thread

I have some plans to use ACC buttons to control this.

Mr BBS
Hi and thanks for the info on the height issue. Could you please let me know what the ICE adjustment that can be made is.
Thanks
Barry
