We're going camping which means stacking all the kit from floor to ceiling behind the middle seats. My quandary is how to stop all the kit falling through the gaps around the headrests and onto the children! The LR and Britpart dog guards look a bit over the top to stop a runaway sleeping bag. Anybody got a clever solution?

The half height dog guard would do it - you could always get a dog too to add to its post trip usefulness

Thanks brucezcutts. I think the half height dog guard is the Britpart one? Still a bit OTT methinks. My last car had a net which rolled out of the load cover and was a much more elegant solution.

In a collision you will be protected in a Discovery by inbuilt safety features including crumple zones and a multi-airbag system that deploys in a fraction of a second. From pictures you may have seen on the forum, this is often very effective in preventing serious injury.
It would be a shame to then be struck a fraction of a second later by an object from the load area which is still travelling at 70mph (or whatever speed you were going at). Being hit by even a 7lb sleeping bag which is still doing 70mph is a bit like being hit by a paving slab thrown across the room . . . .

With apologies if sounding like a nanny...but to say a barrier between a fully loaded vehicle and the occupants is OTT is not true.
Having an accident (or emergency stop) at 30 mph will turn a 1 kg object into a missile weighing tens of times that weight...do it at motorway speeds and you are talking about tonnes. That will go through the rear passenger, your seat and the front windscreen...60 quid is well spent The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

The sister of a colleague of mine died after a head on collision with a lorry. It wasn't the impact with the lorry that killed her, it was the full suitcase on top of a boot full of junk that flew forward, snapped the headrest and broke her neck.
spend the cash on a britpart half guard.
Or do what I've done and buy a trailer so all that is in the boot is the quilt and pillows when we camp!2014 D4 XS

I have my dogguard when on holiday as you can see I am going camping too and it is fully loaded.
Even the roofrack is full.

I've got the Travall half height (top of seat upwards) cargo barrier and it's a great bit of kit.
The LR full height one is argueably stronger, but impractical for use with 7 seats.
The Travall guard (I'm sure it's the same as the Britpart one) is pretty quick to remove if needed and I've heard stuff smack into it when breaking sharply on the motorway (with the boot loaded up) and it hasn't budged.
For 60 quid, and with all due respect, you'd be plain daft not to invest in one 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Why Completely "Load" your Disco when you can pull a little trailer so freeing the rear and roof space???
Also takes the "Danger" element of any flying baggage within the car
On recent camping trips Disco carried 7 with bags, tents,gazeobs and cooking stuff etc and 4 bikes on me pendle carrier and thats what you call loaded!!

Second this advice. The lad who rear ended our XC90 last year was carrying tilers toolboxes, etc in the rear of the car unsecured. He hit us at about 50mph and the end result was a fractured spine on account of everything coming forward.
We tend to use all seven seats, so anything bulky goes into the roofbox.
