G4 back - dead main Batt .... |
|
Hi there got my G4 D3 back on Friday - the new Gbox is as smooth as a baby's bum....did a quick 300km trip and am very happy.
Only problem the MAIN BATT does not hold a charge at all ... it was standing now in the cold for a month so not that surprised - the dealer could have helped by keeping it charged
BUT me thinks it is still the original batt so 5 years old is also par for the course I am not going to F$#^ around with the old one
SO - where and what brand is best to replace the MAIN BATT
Tx
Nico
PS - The old d1 wnet the 6637km in Bots and Nam without a problem - did not even needed to add oil once Nico

Hi Nico
Glad to hear about the g/box, is your D3 not under warrantee? They will replace the battery under M/P, if not, just buy the same spec.
I had a bit of a problem on my other car (Jeep Grand Cherokee) this week, believe me, you battle to find the LR spec battery else where (950 CCA, 90 aH)
Post some pics of the D1 on your trip 2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

LR dealer R1999 for new Batt
another LR dealer R2380.00 (makes me worried the 1st one didn't add VAT although I specifically asked incl.)
Then Batt Centre - sorry we not have strong 1
Batt Inn - Batt dealer in Centurion have Varta that he says is spec for D3 diesel for R 1387.00 2 year warrantee.
The Motorplan ran out whilst at the dealer to do the GBox now - so I can't claim batt - they should have maybe but after a new turbo & box etc - I am just buying new batt myself I am not in the mood to struggle
I did not have time to drive and get 1 today will go to Batt Inn tomorrow and make sure of spec and then buy.
I se bushpower.co.za - Renzo from Optima and solar panel fame - have energizer 102h amp crank batt... is this the right size spec ...
Battery type Lead-acid, maintenance free
Capacity (@ 20h rate) 102Ah
Cold cranking amps (-18oC) BCI about 980
Dimensions (L x W x H) 330 x 175 x 240mm
Weight 26.0kg
Terminal layout Standard tapered terminals
Warranty 2 years
The cold crank was told must be at least 950 so this looks OK ?
Any thoughts ??? Nico

Hi Nico
Looks good, you have 2 year warrantee at least, and if he claims it's for a D3 diesel, then it should be good 2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)

Just remember the diesel will charge up to as high as 15 +V . Not sure if regular sealed battery will like that for extended periods.

Went the stealers route .... |
|
I arrived at the Bat Inn :
Varta J6 is batt code - it is 90ah but the rating (CCA) is 720 IEC or something - this they sat meets the 950 SAE requirement ???? I take their books and confirm - NOT SO - the 720 rating equates to less than 700 SAE reting - not direct chart ....
So I drive to LR - and buy the "genuine" Jaguar branded battery it is same size as the Land Rover one coming out (Varta in small print) BUT the SAE rating is only 800
So even LR now sell lower rated battery than they spec
Any case also when I paid - oops price higher - NOT so I paid the R1999 and it is fitted ons is I now still have the old one so will try and get new life into it as it is quite a big / decent batt...
O well maybe we learn ??
