D4 Gone
Very sorry to have had to do this but had to let the D4 go due to ongoing back problems with the drivers seat - nothing wrong it is just too soft with too little support for me. It is a real shame as I feel the seats really let the D4 down certainly in XS spec. Naturally, this is pretty subjective and it seems that I am alone in having problems with the seating. Perhaps I should have gone for the HSE but too late now! I have enjoyed having the D4 (not the back pain) and would say it is by far the best vehicle I have owned or driven. Anyway, I'll be following the forum as I think it is a great forum with many very help folk on here - thanks to all for advice and help.

It's not good that the only solution was change the vehicle. At least I was able to retro-fit the D3 ant-roll bars to get rid of the most undesireable component of the ride for us.

Is there a big difference between the D4 XS and HSE seats, as in the D3?

We swapped our D3 "S" with cloth seats for the D4XS, I find the D4 just as comfy & have no niggles after a 200mile drive & I DO have a cranky back.

OP - Did you consider fitting a different seat such as Recaro etc I was in a Merc Taxi in Helsinki the other day and the driver had taken this option as the Merc seat was not comfortable for him.Current:

As a D3 SE owner what puts me off a D4 XS is the seats. It is a pity there is not an option to upgrade the seats to the electric seats in an HSE.
I completely agree that the D4 XS seats are sh t! I had a D3 SE with electric seats, arm rest etc and they were the absolute doggies doodars for comfort. I am really disappointed with the XS manually adjusted seats and have already decided that in another 18 months, bank balance permitting, I'll be upgrading to an HSE just to get decent seats.
In most other respects though the D4 is better than the D3 - the 3L engine's a real improvement and on road handling loads better. I wish the wheel arches were still black plastic though for off-roading.
Anybody know what approved off road tyres will fit the 19" rims?MY2016 SDV6 Graphite in Fuji White....... as I like to see the mud and scratches 🤪

Exactly LR's dastardy get-rid-of-the-SE plan (insert your own Mutley chuckle here)Andrew
I'd say, you could get that sorted for a few hundred quids/euros/bucks.The older I get, the better I was.

Mmmh! interesting, seem to remember BN (of olden days) having problems with his D3 seat but eventually getting nowhere with LR, either they haven't taken any notice or its just the odd few owners who are unlucky not to have an 'LR Back' 2004 Discovery 3 - gone

I think BN's problem was a sinking (manual) seat?
