I am getting a horrible smell from the vents when I put the air con on. It's like a dirty dish cloth smell the disco is now 4.5 years old and the air con still works ok. any ideas?

You've got bacteria growing in the system. There are methods of cleaning. Try Googling it. There was a method which involved running it it on max heat for ten minutes or something of that order but I don't think that it was entirely successful.

I used to do it exactly that way plus adding air con cleaner from halfords
let it run on max heat for 10-15 minutes max blow speed and than apply halfords aircon cleaner for as long as it keeps on spraying on cold setting
should be fine after treatment like that for at least a few months

keep using the aircon all the time too, not just in summer - this stops the gas leaking out and and prevents bacteria getting the chance to form in the system. 2014 D4 XS
