Off roading protection...options? |
|
Hi,
Conisdering using the disco for more off roading and am concerned about the standard protection being up to the job.
Have seen the 'sump guards' available, what else is available and what would you recommend??
Thanks for any advice

Might also be worth looking at the Devon4X4 website under products.
I like the look of those Front Wishbone Protectors, it seems that more folk are catching onto the D3 after market these days. Even that 'Switch Panel' looks like a mod for those of us without the centre screen / sat nav?

Excellent thanks for the ideas so far.
How vunerable are the electrical connections around the chassis to damage / water? I was amased to see coloured wires under both front and rear wheel arches thought these would all be encased / covered but am told its normal to be able to see them

My Disco is fitted with those products (Skid plate, Gearbox+Transfer box skid plate and Sill protection plate).
Till now (soft offraod and offroad in Tunisia and Marrocco), I didn't notice any hard hit on them that would maybe have broken the original skid plate of gearbox.
Fingercrossed.

Hi Dave,
Mine was installed... in Belgium by a Land Rover Specialist (www.geoland.be).
But I think you could find the same Rasta product in the UK don't you ?
Follow the link given by Disco-doozle and try to find a dealer close to you.
Cheers
P.S. My Disco is an "Atacama Sand" which is close to your colour what was previously called "Maya gold" I think.

brummiedeano - any chance of some good pictures ? the one on the D4x4 site is pretty bad and doesn't really show much. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

if they are direct onto the wishbone, I wonder how much protection they will really give...? If you come up against something and bash the protection plate the wishbone will still take the full force ? No ? (unlike other plates that actually cover areas but are not directly fixed to them...if that makes sense...)
(apologies to lostingreen for hijacking the thread and taking it a bit ) The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
