Has anybody had their injectors cleaned and was it worth the money and efford?
A local workshop offers a service whereby they chemically clean the injectors and feul system on petrol and diesel engines.A friend had the injectors on his Ford F250 cleaned in this way before our Nam trip with good results.Better feul consumption and less smoke.
The product that they use is FORTRON,made in Australia.
Anybody know this product?

Hi Frans,
My dealer, in Sydney, adds FORTRON engine flush at every service. As it's so frequent, I can't say how effective it is, but the engine is sweet (at 80k km).

Hi Pete,
By engine flush do mean the oil or do they add it to the feul? The FORTRON that this shop use specify on the can"not to be added to the tank".They connect a machine to the feul line and pump this cleaning stuff through the whole feul system, pump, lines and injectors....while the engine is running.
So this probably not the same item.
Regards,
Frans

Hi Frans,
I can't answer you directly, but suspect that it is this product:
http://www.fortron.com.au/products.php?cat_id=2&prod_id=11
I'll chat with them at the next service in a couple of weeks. (I do know that shortly after I bought my D3, in country NSW, the injectors needed to be replaced under warranty).
Best Wishes,

Thanks,
Frans

As you know, our feul is not the best.My D3 has done 94000km,and has a slight miss at startup when cold.It is very heavy on feul when cold.........heavier than my petrol car.It just seems to take longer to normalise starting from cold. The advice from diesel shops is to start looking at cleaning the injectors and feul system when approaching 100000k's,as a preventative measure, taking into account our feul quality in this part of the world.
The car does not smoke and feels fine when at normal operating temp.

Hi Frans,
Thanks for the clarification.
Unfortunately, I can't answer re the machine connections. I'll ask service when I'm next there.

Frans I have similar symptoms with my D3 with 115,000km, but only when really cold. I found that using the 50ppm diesel makes a difference. Also, watch your glow-plug light when you start - wait till it turns off and then start - does it run smooth then? Mine does - is it perhaps a glowplug issue rather than injectors?

Anthony,it could very well be a glowplug not performing. My car does it every time starting from cold.Tzaneen is not cold and it sleeps inside.I always wait for the christmastree to extinguish before starting.Car is going to the stealers as there is a suspension problem as well.I prefer to indicate to them where where the fault is,as I haven't got much faith in them finding faults. If there computer does not tell them what to do,they are not to sharp!!Will let you know what happens.

had the rough cold start issue at around 100 000kms. Every third/fourth tank I now add redex diesel additive, and stick to 50ppm where possible - problem solved.

Having read up on Redex and 2-stroke usage on this forum as well as freel2, I am gonna try the 2-stroke (semi-synthetic JASCO FC or ISO L-E GC or GD)
will revert with comment after a few km

Well after a couple hundred km driving it hard with the two stroke added, I am impressed. Much less smoke, better idle, smooth starting. Is it my imagination? Look it's also warmer this week, so maybe that helps with the starting, but the engine even sounds different - I can actually hear some tone from the exhaust now.
