Color Change before production
Hi,
I ordered a D4 HSE Buckingham Blue in March.
For some opaque reasons in June they told me the car will only be ready mid September.
From this forum I discovered I'll get a MY11 instead, and Buckingham blue does not exist anymore.
It looks they will deliver me a Baltic Blue instead, I don't like it at all
When requested, the dealer confirmed this last week.
And he told me it is not in production yet but they can't change it anyway.
What do you think?

If it's not the coloured that you ordered (OK I understand LR had the right to stop colours even though Buck Blue is the best colour) and they say you are stuck with a colour you don't want, tell them where to stick it, cancel and buy something else where the manufacturer doesn't treat you like a mug!
Rant over but looks like LR are back to the old habit of making cars for customers that they didn't order!

I rather like the Baltic blue, almost went for that myself but felt it was just too dark for my taste and too close to Buck blue / black. If Cairns had still been on offer I would have got that.
But if it's not what you want then speak to LR, I'm sure given the circs they can swing a spec change right up to the moment the colour button is pressed on the paint robot.

@DSL, No worries, the poor customer management so far with that dealer makes me grumpy too!
@Dexter, I know... colors prefs are very personal, that's the problem. I'm convinced the dealer will like baltic blue too
@Martin, I'll discuss tomorrow with the dealer and see if they change their position, if not I'll try with LR directly.
Thanks all for your answers.

For the ones interested in the story
I called LR Belgium today. They were very kind.
It looks someone at the factory decided to switch the colors with the MY11 model.
And the dealer didn't inform me, back in June, there were changes.
The car is set for production next Tuesday (How a so good news can come so badly).
LR Belgium will try to contact the UK for a color change.
But as they told me "LR UK is very far from us".
Poor continental things we are.

The distance of the phone line really makes a difference.

I'll ship one box of fine Belgian Chocolates and some Trapist beers to anyone living next to the factory who can prevent them clicking the blue button next Tuesday 8)

You could always chance your arm with your dealer and tell them, as this wasn't the car, colour that you ordered, then you expect a heavy discount off the price.
Accept the new colour and take said discount and get the full car wrapped.
It is also woth looking into what protection you have as a buyer in your own country and see if it helps your situation.
Over here we have the Sale Of Goods Act, and a part of this act states, "As Per Agreed To meet The Customers Requirements". If it does not meet prior agreement, then you can refuse any goods under this act.ATB

Hi Tchvil,
I've had a little ask around for you, and I have some more information which may help you.
The vehicle bodies are built (and painted) before they go onto the assembly line ("launched") - do you know which of these your date of Tuesday is at all?
It should technically be possible to change any factory order 24 hours before the body is built - this is the point when the build specification for the vehicle is finalised and the correct parts sourced.
Is this a D4 ordered to your exact specification, or a dealer order that was modified? It may be that your dealer has placed a stock order which they are trying to push you to take.
Have you tried LR customer services in the UK - they are obviously much "closer" to the factory than LR Belgium or your dealer.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

No clue, I'll try to figure it out.

It was ordered on my specs. Except the change to a MY11 I don't think they are pushing.

Do you have an LR UK contact person or a phone number I can call?
Thanks.

@Alan G, I called a consumer protection association we have here.
They told me more or less what you wrote:
Either use a local equivalent of the "Sale Of Goods Act" or accept the color change and deal with them its value.

For the ones who followed the story, here is the end. A happy one.
After rejecting the first delivery because of the color switch, I ordered a new one in October 2010 for a planned delivery in January.
And... some factory delays later, it finally arrived last week, and is now in front of the house.
It took a full year of wait between the first order and the final delivery.
All in all, the dealer was nice.
As an appetizer, they lent me a disco for 2 trips in the Alps, few days in February and a week in March.
And booked me to an experience day this weekend to learn how to drive this thing in the mud.
