What a joke!

D4 ordered just over a month ago with an estimated delivery date for the end of October. Ive just been told that I will not now see it until 2011, with still no commited build date.

The thought of paying £1000 extra to the government really grates, to the point that I'm seriously considering cancelling the order now. I can just see this being a never ending series of delays.

I'm sure it is going to be slightly different for all dealers, but if what I have been told is correct then most will be affected in the same way, meaning that any orders placed after June are not likely to be fulfilled until next year.

How any large company can get itself into a position where it cannot sell something there is a demand for, especially in the current climate, really beggars belief.

You don't think they could be happy to see a bit of a waiting list? Creates demand, increases residuals and keeps the used market healthy. Some manufacturers do it on purpose, and in this climate they don't want to increase the salary bill too quickly!

The Audi Q7 delivery dates were Feb 2011 when I was looking around back in May/June. So, my 12 weeks (now 14 weeks as its due second week of Sept) doesnt seem too bad.

For it to jump from 3 months to 6 months in such a short timescale suggests a surge of buyers.

Probably more to the point, would you be happy canceling and ordering your 2nd choice of car? Or is it worth the wait? Only you can answer that one. Me? Yeah I'd bitch like the best of them and then I'd pay up, wait and try and look cheerful through it all.

Sorry to hear your news. Sounds like your order was taken without a definite build slot, maybe the Dealer was hopeful that a cancellation would open up and took a chance. I ordered in May for a mid to late Sept delivery and was advised this week that my car is being built on 1st September. My fingers are crossed that there are no major hold ups and the VAT rise is an extra cost that you could well do without.

What would you go for if you did decide to cancel?

I did this once before with a new car, with long delivery delays on the new Audi S4, I cancelled my order and went a for a BMW 540 instead. It was a blessing in disguise as the BMW was by far the better car.

But this time there is nothing else I want. The Q7s dont really do it for me, I test drove an XC90 and I was very disappointed with it. I cannot bring myself to pay the nearly new price for a year old D4, so it doesnt really leave many options.

If it wasnt for the VAT increase I wouldnt be bothered, but the thought of having to pay more money for something I'd already questioned my own sanity about is not easy to come to terms with.

I think I'll sleep on it for a bit to see if logic takes over from the emotion - the problem being that logic might tell me to buy a used MPV and a sports car with the money I save.

I guess that you need to speak to a VAT specialist. I thought that last year we had all this discussion and it transpired that the VAT was charged at the rate when the deal was done. That may account partly for the rush in orders with people getting their orders in at today's prices. Thumbs Up

Plenty of dealers have guaranteed build slots for October and November if you ring round. I'd do that and if you find one cancel your current order (which you are well within your rights to do). As long as the build is over about 6 weeks away you can amend the spec to your liking.

Tell the dealer to throw in some dealer fitted extra's or to absorb the VAT increase - thats the least they can do. If they say no - just cancel ur order, get ur refund of inital payment, and go to another dealer - u cant be spending this much money and deal with this level of crap.
