Julia Bradbury - once in my top 10, not any more...

Well, my gf lives near Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

She received a letter through this morning from Julia Bradbury (the one of Countryfile, which I took a liking to Whistle ) basically asking for support to close the green lanes in Derbyshire/Peak District. Evil or Very Mad .

I don't know the full ins and outs of the letter just yet as I am yet to see it, but will soon study it and a scanned copy will be uploaded.

Just thought I would make you all aware Thumbs Up

Kind of contradicts the enjoyment she displayed whilst taking part in and supporting the Macmillan 4x4. Confused

I am rather surprised by this, as Julia Bradbury was the celebrity competitor in the 2009 Macmillan 4x4 Challenge! In which they drove on lots of green lanes. I wonder what has made her change her mind?

Reading between the lines on that letter, it is obviously targeted at 4x4 drivers. However, it is not totally anti green laning.

It quite rightly states how they have campaigned for the regeneration of Houndkirk, which was in a terrible state, and I have driven it very recently and it has been transformed by proper fencing to keep the hooligans away.

BUT, it is totally wrong to state that Chapel Gate has been ruined by 4x4 drivers - it has been ruined by lack of maintenance and heavy rain causing washouts so big you would loose a car in them!

The other cases are non specific, so I don't know which lanes are concerned.

I think a letter to the PDNPA outlining our concerns with the letter would be in order, just to give a balanced view.

Sadly the Ramblers are well organised and well funded. They are targetting the NP because there are sympathetic ears there. Doesn't matter that footpaths near mam tor had to have stone flown in by helicopter to fix them because they were so worn out.

It's disapointing really. When the Ramblers started doing trespass protests in the 60's & 70's, the greenlanes were all there, totally legal to walk/cycle/ride motorbikes and drive. Since then they have changed their tune to "we meant access for all, except if you aren't walking" w Censored ers
