Worst car I've ever owned - multiple faults
I bought a 55' plate Disco 3 about 18 months ago and have had nothing but trouble with it. I've replaced the entire n/s rear suspention bushes, front n/s wheel bearing / hub and am now left with a number of electronic problems. Some have been dealt with in various forums on this site - EPB squealing for example and mirrors that have a mind of their own despite having the reverse interlock disabled.
I have a couple of problems that haven't been covered though and would appreciate any assistance;
1. The front park sensors work intermitently. Can't find any reason why they should fail and can't seem to gain access to them in the front bumper.
2. The second issue is the cruise control. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - more often than not it doesn't.
I really wish I'd never set eyes on this vehicle. Considering how much it cost the build / component quality is appalling. LR should be taken to task. Never mind the warranty period. What about recalls to meet customer satisfaction. This car has put me off LR for life.

1) Sensor failure
2) Clock spring in steering wheel hub
TBH - the car is 5 years old - what do you expect?

Adam - I've had ten year old cars with fewer problems than this one. Surely it's built to last more than 5yrs doing purely road mileage, or are they just toys? LR used to have a reputation for quality and longevity. Where did it go? Is the spring merely something contained within the switchgear on the steering wheel.
Darryl - it's now done 76K miles but the problems have been there since about 65k. They're just very annoying and not worth spending hundreds of pound on with LR

I've had many older cars than that in the past (admittedly less complex ones,) with fewer problems but I would not really expect to get that many faults on any of them, or a D3, (unless of course they've been badly abused or neglected in the past.)
In support of LR though, I'm on my second D3 which is now just coming up to 4 years old & 87K, and third Defender and have been very pleased with all of them.
They're not all lemons you know Clive

for the cruise control, check all the pedals are coming fully up, my brake pedal was a little sticky at one point and not clearing the switch. (I'm assuming there,s a wee switch, you know the one that disengages CC when you brake). Next time it doesn't work just try lifting the pedals with your foot.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

And you haven't had the turbo fail, EGR go knacked, compressor decide it's not gonna play, etc, etc, etc. You've only just begun faults wise!!

I take it that LR just laugh and take your money once they're out of warranty. What ever happened to a vehicle being 'fit for purpose'. Anyone know if anyone has ever challenged LR about all the faults...I mean further than just complaining to CS?

Have you taken it back to the dealer you bought it from? My last D3 was 5 years old, on 126000 miles when I part ex for my current D3. The local main dealer (Guy Salmon Stockport) were always reasonably sympathetic with the car, and whilst I never expected everything to be fixed for free, many things were on the basis that I had the car serviced by them from new.
This is a sad day for me,but also I feel as though a load has been lifted of my mind.
My Disco is out of warranty in October. In the year I've owned her she has had the front seat base covers replaced and the steering wheel rotary coupler done too. She's also been in for a "slow" external temp reading fault causing the fbh to activate unnecessarily, fault never satisfactorily rectified.
She was in last week for her 3rd year service ar 32000 miles and they told me it needs a couple of wheel bearings. There is also a strange "horn" sound coming from under the bonnet,"this requires further investigation sir".Its nothing to do with the horns as I checked them out myself the other night.A friend, who is a specialist in vehicle diagnostics reckons, via the phone, that it is a fault in some type of actuator, but not having seen the car couldn't be more specific.
Also just recently had a quote in from the dealer who supplied it for a continuation of the warranty at £880 for one year or £1400 for two!
I cant believe that a car at that mileage should require wheel bearings as she has never been off roaded or abused.
Now moved to the other side of the Tata empire and purchased an eight month old Jaguar,as I no longer need to tow a tin tent.
I'll be really sorry to see her go as have thoroughly enjoyed the driving experience, but I'll sleep a bit easier at night.
On a more positive note, got almost top book for her as the dealer also has a LR franchise.
My wife wants to know how I'll spend the time that I spent on here every day.
This is a brilliant site full of friendly people and packed with great info.
Many thanks,Graeme.2007 TDV6 XS Auto.
