Snow Chains oe Wheel socks
Hi Guys ,
Has anybody purchased snow chains for the d3 ? I have a d3 with 17s but they are road tyres .......im expecting the big chill later in the year and dont want to get stuck ....any ideas or experiance in this area would be a help.
1 when it snows ...do you put them on and drive everywhere? or only when heavy snow fall?
2 do they damage the wheels?
talk soon .

Only any good on snow covered roads, when you hit cleared roads you'll have to take them off. Best (and for not much more than snow chains) 2nd set of wheels & winter or AT/MT tyres (assuming snowy roads across the Irish sea are a mix of snow, cleared, frozen then thawed then refrozen, etc.). Did all last winter in N Scotland in those conditions on MTRs on my car and ATRs on SWMBO's without any problems, and that was much worse than you'd expect.

In the south-west last winter my D3 running on (brand new) Scorpion Zeroes fared much, much better than my Ford Ranger pickup running on BFG ATs.
The weather was no where near as harsh as oop norf but I was suitably impressed by the D3's natural ability on road tyres - it was happy to maintain traction on surfaces that were virtually impossible to walk on. Apart from various LRs and other 'proper' 4wds (there are a lot of Troopers and Landcruisers around us), the only vehicles making good progress on our local dual-carriageway were white vans!
However, to answer your question directly, I carried snow chains in both the Ranger and the D3 (as well as shovel, blanket, flask, etc) and I never needed them for either vehicle.Club missing my D3
