Can't get my removable towbar in?
Never used it before had to tow a trailer today and can't get it in quite enough to latch. Has never been used but is loose just wont go the extra few millimeters. Vehicle had previously has an adjustable one fitted so I know the socket is OK. Tried a hammer and a jack gave up

I had this problem Neil. Try pulling the green lever sideways as you twist it while shoving the tow bar up the attachment.Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

IIRC you have to have the key in to unlock it so that you can turn the green handle far enough.
You shouldn't need to be hitting it with anything to get it to seat correctly.

^wot he said
When you pull the green lever out to the side, can you see the orange colour revealed? If you don't pull it far enough, the large pin won't retract enough.Andrew

If you've fitted it in the hole far enough to only be a couple of mm short, then you just need a big hammer & hit the towbar upwards from the bottom and it will click into place Bodsys Brake Bible

I needed a hammer the first few times too. Now it is OK.
I also needed a hammer to get it off again. I think you just need to get rid off some paint and it will work.Roel

Sorry to ressurect an old post. Bought one of these on fleabay and tried to fit it first time today but locating pin won't retract far enough. Nervous about using a hammer cos I can't see any difference in the locked or unlocked position. Seller fitted a new lock before sending it as he broke the key off in the old one (old one sent as 'proof'). Is it possible he has fitted it wrong? According to the manual the red indicator should be completely obscured when its in the correct position but I can't see any difference when the key is locked or unlocked. Don't want to hammer it in then find I can't get it out. Help please!

I spent a frustrating 10mins on similar until I gave up and read the instructions.
Once the key is in the unlocked position (see the diag on the lock) and noting there is no 'positive' feel when it's unlocked and there is no visual clue except the key position. You then have to actually pull the green knob assembly out while twisting (i.e just unlocking does not reveal the indicator - it's the pulling out that does it). Pulling out reveals about 5mm of red indicator and retracts the pin. It should then just slip and then click into place. Note: the green cover just retracts unless you hold it out. You then just really need to check it's fully retracted back over the red area before locking.
Don't try to hammer it in if the red indicator is not revealed - it will not help! (On mine it needs no hammering at all though I got very close to doing so before I figured it out.)
Hope that helps.

Just to be clear my pin retracted far enough but it still just didn't want to gor deep enough. To get the system locking itselves.
And to get it out I had the same problem I could operate the green lever but the tow hook didn't want to come out. A small tap with the hammer and it came out.
Now it has been in and out regulary and pulled some have trailers I don't have that problem anymore. As I lost some paint on some parts what just makes the difference.Roel
