Lock and unlock with key in car |
|
Have just managed to lock the D4 with the key still in it and then re-open the car again wth the key still in it. Lefy the key in one of the holes in the centre console and did not realise, got out the car and pushed botton on handle (keyles entry) car locked and I was none the wiser. Walked away from car and suddenly thought where is key, went back to car and it was all locked, looked through window and saw key laying in the centre, tried door handle and it unlocked and opened relief but then realised the potential of leaving key in car

with keyless the trick is get used to having the key on you and not taking it our of pocket or handbag!
I had a cold sweat moment the other day when I used the boot open button on the fob, got some stuff out, shut tail gate but then couldn't find the key (I don't have keyless on my D4) though i must have left it in boot
turns out it was in my inside pocket but would that action lock my keys in if they had been!? XC90 T8 R Design Pro

But if you walked back and opened the door again, then it couldn't have been actually locked in the first place
If it detects that the key is inside, then why wouldn't it unlock when you press the button on the handle?

That is the issue, the car was locked and this is confirmed by the fact that the door mirrors had folded in. I thought it was not possible to get out and lock the key in the car but it apperas it is possible. Just want to see if others have been able to do the same or is it a fault with mine. Sounds like some kind of a "soft-lock" rather than a deadlocking type of thing....
I'm sure there's an obvious explanation somewhere 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

A Mercedes does not let you lock the car if the key is inside. The older I get, the better I was.

Once or twice I have tried to lock the car with the key inside (also have keyless entry) by accident but the car did not lock. I heard the double beep and nothing happened. Thought this was the failsafe mode Peter
