DPchip

Has anybody tried, or considered, fitting a DPchip from AWDTechnologies.

While not boasting the same sorts of power/torque increases as Turbochip, they do boast that they are specifically made for Australian conditions and are manually tunable through 10 steps, can be fitted by the average jo with reasoanable DIY skills, sit downstraem from the ECU and can be further finely tuned by laptop through their dealers.

Hope to get my new TDV6 SE early July - already have the VIN number and just can't wait Smile Smile

I have heard of boxes causing problems as they work by tricking the car rather than reprogramming it. The cars that are actually chipped just have their ECU's reprogrammed and are more effective. In the UK Dastek do boxes like this that seem to have been quite good. The big problem is they are very visible whereas real chipping isn't so visible. That said if you were having the car serviced you could remove the box in advance. Chipping companies would say that theirs is invisible so it doesn't matter. Its horses for courses I guess. I looked long and hard at them but decided against, mainly because I'm a coward and didn't want to risk voiding a warranty because it would be my luck it would be found to cause a problem Laughing but I can perfectly understand why anyone would want it done as there is lots of 8)

DP chip is simple interceptor box that raises fuel pressure. It is nothing more than a simple resistor that is 'plugged in' to the common rail fuel pressure sensor which 'fools' the ecu into believing that the fuel pressure is too low. This results in 'over fuelling' and forces extra fuel into the engine cylinders creating extra torque, smoke and wear and tear on the fuel injection system.

What price is DP chip charging?

The only equivalent to their product here is www.tunit.co.uk as they are both made in Austria by www.kueberl.com

Hope this helps

Thanks for your input Turbochip.

From what I've been able to gather from looking around the net, DPchip has a recommended retail price of $1,320 (approx 528GBP). If this is just a simple resistor then Shocked Shocked !!

Whilst looking around I also came across a really interesting article on Electronic Diesel Tuning Devices - it can be found here: http://www.lcool.org/technical/elec_diesel_tuning/tuning.html

Perhaps anybody interested in a plain jane "chip-up" of their vehicle could benefit from reading this? Can I assume that the Turbochip solution goes a whole lot further than most chips? And if so, will the product become available in Australia?

yes, very interesting article irobbie. I've had experience of an add-on box and though it worked it did so purely by increasing the amount of fuel delivered to the engine. Chris, as your 'product' is not an add-on box, just how sophisticated is it? To quote from the article:

In summary - regarding independent injection timing control, this is a technically difficult feature to implement and requires sophisticated hardware and software. The improvements in engine performance and throttle response can be dramatic as can the enhancements to engine durability when adjusted in conjunction with increased fuel injection volume.

I would imagine that the Disco is alraedy equipped with the 'sophisticated hardware' Does the TC solution also alter the independent injection timing control?

We alter, injection timing, fuel pressure, torque limiters, turbo pressure and throttle demand Smile
