How many HPFPs does one Disco3 really need? |
|
OK folks... this is now beyond a joke.
I complained when the HPFP failed the first time in April 2007 and replaced with another bad designed one. Then it failed again, and a previous dealer incorrectly installed an updated design... so it failed again. The last replacement was in March 2009, and they installed a totally new fuel system. That didn't stop that dealer from incorrectly installing the low pressure fuel pump - the o-ring seal leaked when the tank was full.
So in for 108,000km service today and I'm surprised to be told it needs more recall work... on the HPFP again!
So this is now the FOURTH! new HPFP to be installed in my MY07.
I've been using mainly *hell diesel and only *altex when there is no *hell garage about. But seeing that it was a recall action and not related to the dealer finding a problem - it is very disappointing.
I have had trouble-free running from 72,000 to 108,000km. The rest of the time is a worry.
I just hope this is the last time it is done.
I'll wonder about this while I catch a train home and back again tomorrow - if it is ready.

Major component repairs/replacement are a nightmare . I don't think
there are many mechs who are skilled enough to undertake this work.
Your situation is one were if you leased , you'd walk away ...............
I know 2 people who did such with RRS because of agro . Went with
an Audi.

What do they need to do now? Are you sure it isn't the same recall and the LR system doesn't know about it? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Caver - the service rep said that LR Australia has deemed my D3 has not had the correct HPFP installed as required by the recall notice.
So in effect, they're now saying there were 3 different part numbers for the HPFP in MY07s. Unless the previous dealer lied to me - which is entirely possible.
I also just had a call from the service rep - saying a previous repair had cross-threaded a mounting bolt. It is in for another day while they wait for the thread to be repaired.
I am in the middle of typing out a stern note. Just not sure what to demand! I feel totally deflated.

Hi Rob
Given what happened at the other dealer I am not surprised.
At least you are getting it done right with a spanking new HPFP. At least that is not a part that is likely to fail soon, assuming Alto do it right . I wonder if it contributed to the judder?
A letter of compalint to LR about the shoddy service from the first stealer will allow you to vent your speen and maybe get you a freeby.
BTW I got rid of the solenoid click in the centre console, I spayed it with silicon spay but dry lube may be less messy. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

New campaign to replace HPFP in MY07-MY09 TDV6 D3s! |
|
Hi Folks,
The dealer rep told me that the recall performed was a new one - actually an update to campaign number P008 (published here: http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/968093 ). The new campaign number is P021 and was released in August 2010 - and supposedly involves yet another new HPFP!
So for folks with MY07-MY09, the answer to my original question is "3". If you're unlucky like me and had an incompetent installation, it could be four HPFPs replaced so far. Not sure if anyone can beat that!
One more thing - if you do have a MY07-MY09 TV6, you might want to ring your dealer to find out if the work is required.
I did not receive a recall notice via mail - even though my address hasn't changed in 15 years. Why do I suspect they want nothing to do with me?
FWIW, the new pump is a LOT quieter. The dealer also found a tie-rod end that was on the way out, cleaned and adjusted the EPB, replaced rear pads, wheel alignment, etc. It almost feels like new again - and the permagrin is slowly coming back.
Cheers,
Rob
Edited - to change the date range for P021, as per the LR Australia letter. And again! And the subject!

HAHA!
I went to the letterbox today - and what did I find?
Recall notice with no date - just "November 2010", for "Safety Recall P021".
I wonder if mine was the first one to be issued with this, so they can reject my claim that I was not notified? No, I am being way too skeptical now...

If everyone gets the letter this week then you'll know.
Anyone else got a letter? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I actually asked the dealer at the last service and he said my VIN was not in the recall range (MY08).
Just had my first 'repair' required under warrantee. I've been having very slow coolant loss over some time and the dealer )and me) was unable to find it. They;ve now just replaced th EGR coolers as they thought one was weeping slightly. So far no sign of coolant level dropping, so they may have got it.

Hey Martin - I just checked the notice from LR Australia and P021 covers MY07-MY09. Maybe there was a good batch of HPFPs in that lot - maybe not. You might want to ask the dealer to confirm that.

Hi James,
I suspect that LR Australia used up a lot of HPFP that they had in store - before actually changing to the new model. As mine was one of the first to have HPFPs changed, I would be using old stock - which still had the poorly designed front bearing lubrication.
That's ok folks... I feel the pain so you can reap the rewards.
Anyhow... looking forward to the next three weeks of offroad action - starting next week! 8)
Darwin - look out!
