Brakes - harsh binding sound think its time for new discs! |
|
I have a harsh grinding sound from the front nearside brakes when I reverse slowly. Looking at the discs they are quite worn. The car has now done 23K miles. Does anybody know how long discs and pads should last, also do D3 discs & Pads fit D4, also has anybody had to replace yet and how much did it cost?
The noise goes away when I drive off and no warning lights yet, Anybody any thoughts on how many miles I should do before replacing - this week I've got to take my daughter back to University and expect to put 1000 miles on the car!

If it's already grinding (and you've had a look to see if the pads are worn) then you need to get them changed ASAP. Griding usually means metal on Metal, which is not good for the disks and is not good for your stopping ability!
I changed mine on about every 25,000 miles roughly speaking
Well, pads at 25k, Pads & disks at aboiut 50k and pads are about due in a few more K.
Dealers vary on how much they charge, but if they're changing the disks as well, I wouldn't expect much change (if any) from £600 if a dealer is doing it. Bodsys Brake Bible
