Poor battery performance

All,

My D4 has had the enhancement programme thingy applied.

I am still slightly concerned about overall battery performance.

If I am in the car with the engine switched off but the radio or TV on it only manages between 5-10 minutes before the power saving message turn on engine etc message appears.

This seems an awfully short amount of time to me and was a royal PITA a week or so back when sitting in a long queue for a ferry with 40 mins to kill and a strict "engine off please sir" policy.

Any thoughts ?

Low power mode is perfectly normal ...it is to protect battery life ...your radio will go into this mode for an hour and then switch off to further prevent battery drain.

I too am concerned about the battery being poor at holding a charge - after months of long motorway journey, the vehicle spent two weeks sat on the drive with maybe 5 short (less than 5 mile) trips in that period and I got the Battery Low Start Engine warning.

I'm planning on taking it in to the stealers sometime soon, and get them to check the battery as some D4 got their batteries replaced during the Assurance work, and I'm sure mine didn't - maybe it should have Confused

Understood DG but it goes off a long long time before an hour is up usually 5 - 10 mins.

I spoke with my dealer about installing a second battery for backup purposes, as a side note he mentioned that one of his customers had changed to a gel battery in his FFRR and that he never had a problem with keeping the charge afterwards despite large problems in advance. If that is the case then the conclusion must be that the original batteries are c..p.

They are replacing the battery with the enhancement for some VINs but knowing LR there will be lots outside the VIN needing a new one. Rolling Eyes

I have always had these concerns about the battery/power system. My TV shuts down after only five minutes sometimes with a low battery warning, all through the winter I got a message that the Timed Climate wasn't available due to Low Battery, my FBH didn't work nine out of ten times because it thought the battery was too low etc.

My battery was replaced before the programme was rolled out and it made no difference. I think that the problem lies with the new power management system having too high a voltage threshold. When I get the "Low Battery Start Engine " message the engine always cranks at full speed as normal.

Exactly my feelings/experience Mwestcrew.

I'll ask the dealer when it goes on for service in a month or two.

I haven't had this issue through the summer but now the colder weather is here I have been getting the "Timed Climate not available, check battery and fuel level" message again and the FBH not starting. Dealer looked at it this week and modified the Car Config as they said that it hadn't been properly configured in the factory.

Hasn't helped.....it was really cold at 4.30 this morning and still got the message and no FBH start.

Personally I am convinced that the low battery threshold on my car is too high. It shuts down the infotainment system after only around five minutes sometimes.

I'll have to live with it for a while as I can't face taking it in again......in the last 6 weeks it's been in the dealers for 24 days.

They were replacing the battery on some D4s ask the dealer to replace yours, that shouldn't take long. Idea
